Microsoft has just announced some interesting news at CES. It seems as if they have decided to fight in order to maintain their position as one of the leading technology companies. Find out the details in the news article, and make sure to discuss your opinion below...

It looks like it will also work with MCE and Vista too.

Yea it will. This morning I was reading an interview with Bill Gates, and one of the questions asked was "Do you think that Microsoft has to work harder to tie its products together?"

His answer: "Absolutely."

IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) is a system where a digital television service is delivered using the Internet Protocol over a network infrastructure, which may include delivery by a broadband connection.

Basically, television over the the internet or a network. This as far as I know is over the Internet.

I looked for this and all i got was that Microsoft is supposed to be putting TV on your 360. Seriously folks whats the point of TV on a 360 when you can turn it off and watch TV? Since you said that, i guess its not that bad. Just buy a TV tuner card though and problem solved or go to the many online TV sites.

Microsoft will have deals with major networks that regular online TV doesn't have, thereby making it much nicer. Also, it's convenient to get it directly from your Xbox, ESPECIALLY, since it's got High Def Programmes.

Well if your using the High Def part of your 360 on your TV then your TV is high Def, so just turn your Xbox off yet again. Still kinda pointless to have TV on an Xbox.

Most regular TV stations around my area broadcast in HD. So i can watch CSI in HD if i had an HDTV.

I don't think you can unless you have an hd cable box that the cable goes into and the HD cables come out.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Also I'm pretty sure that the channels around here broadcast in HD but you have to go to there HD channel which you have to pay for with your cable.

I dont have cable, or cable service in my area. No DSL, or anything. Most everybody has DirecTV satelite. The regular TV stations are broadcasted in HD here which you pick up with a regular antenna. So if i had an HDTV i could watch nice TV like my friend down the street.

I see. Yea, most people around here have cable or digital cable. DirectTv explains it.

GASP! No dsl or cable :(

Yup, no Cable, DSL, digital lines of any kind. Internet serivce avalible is only Wildblue, Direcway(both SAT), dial up, and Aircanopy. I know my friends HD isnt satelite cause his parents dont believe in paying for TV which is cool. But whats the point of having an HDTV? But now they are getting regular stations broadcasted in HD so i guess it works out.

Yea, I think the 3, 6, 10s are broadcasted over the air in HD.

In the UK the regular TV is being phased out (analogue) and our digital does not have the bandwidth or hardware to play HDTV

These services are a great thing, there's a few more pretty neat innovations that MS are bringing out that look nice too. Pay-per-view TV/Films on the 360 is pretty cool as long as it's a reasonable price IMO, not that I'm going to use it (having Sky+), but tis nice
