The race to cram more information into even smaller spaces shows no sign of slowing: last week, Seagate announced the first 1-inch hard drive with an 8GB, the ST1. The drive is capable of storing 200 hours of audio or approx. 4,000 songs, and is also available in 6GB, 5GB, 4GB, 3GB and 2.5GB sizes.

As the technology matures, Perpendicular Recording is expected to increase storage capacities by as much as a 10-fold, representing 60 gigabytes on a Compact Flash card and desktop hard drives of three to five terabytes over the next 5-7 years. If you think that sounds a bit silly, consider for a minute how far we have come in the same period to today: the original Microdrive was just 340MB in 1999, increasing over 20-fold in six years to 8G

OK, so I'm not particularly interested in this....but it is a good thing and looks like drives will be over a terabyte pretty damn soon.

I just don't see what the hell I'm gonna need 1tb for :eh: I mean...my 76gb Maxtor does me!! :)

there about 1021 kbps and what du u mean i cant tell the difference?!

If you're really an audiophile then you would be listening to a beautiful set of House speakers (B&W, B&O etc) all played through a top-notch CD player and through a valve amp.....but you're not so converting them to mp3 won't make much of a difference ;)

ma 200gb has 8 Gb free round 40 gb music, 50 gb games, 50 gb video and round 30 for linux :( i need more space :'(
