Metro 2033 film cancelled after scriptwriter attempted to "Americanize" the story

Well there's the problem with it right there. It didn't need 'Americanizing'. One of the things that made the Metro games and the books so appealing was that they were set in Moscow/Russia and it created a very unique world particularly amongst other video games. The Metro in Moscow is an amazing setting that these games mastered. The architecture in many of those stations is incredible and makes for a fascinating setting compared to the Subway in New York or the Underground in London.

Exactly. The Russian setting is an essential component of what makes the books/games great. It didn't need to move to America.

Also, as a side note, look up Soviet Union Bus Stops. some of them look amazing.

I swear American film makers seem to be incredibly out of touch with what Americans will watch. I'm sure there are LOADS of American Metro fans that would have been interested in the movie actually set where it belongs.

the amount of metro fans compared to the american population who go to movies would be like 0.001% of the population. They dont care about metro fans, only box office revenue. I just hate how they always try to spin it in their favour to glorify themselves.
probably side tracking alot but U571 comes to mind which was such a joke of a movie... The most historically inaccurate movie ever.

Don't get why they couldnt keep the Soviet setting.

Aww. So no "Dude who is completely crap at everything, hot girl, gets good at everything, gets girl"?

Bummer.

Not really. It's more like hiring an American writer to write a story about a place and culture he's probably never experienced and then expecting him to make it Russian. It would never work. They should have had an English translation version. Would have worked out

Honestly, while I'm gutted that the Metro film has been shelved, I am over the moon that Dimtry has stuck to his guns about keeping it Russian.

To me, Metro wouldn't work in the US, UK or anywhere else; the Soviet feel is what makes Metro, Metro.

The Russians said Net and I can't blame them for it. Why does anything be americanized when the world is made up of so many different countries and cultures

It died an honorable death, at least. The same probably won't be true for Netflix's Witcher series.

I ll not be too hasty, but I dont see witcher on netflix being a success. Or it will be a 1 season only show. Can't see HC being a regular on the show given how greedy he is.
