I recently bought 2GB (2x1GB) crucial ballistix tracer which I have only just got a chance to test out. One of the sticks is getting a few errors in test 4 at stock timings/volts. Is it likely to be a duff stick or DFI playing up as it often does? I have just left the memory settings at SPD.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

I cant get into windows at the moment but as soon as I can I will change to a different BIOS - which one ? I was thinking 510-3

I'm just installing windows on a raid0 array, once everything is up I will try a diff bios.

Have you not got another computer (such as the one you're using now) to make a flashdisk with? Just try different ones - I'm not sure which wil be best for your ram. Try the latest one first.

what spd is the mem if its 3200 set it to 200:1 or 1:1 ration loosen the timmings in the bios like 7,3,3,2.5 2.6v or 2.7v go from there

It's gotta be -3 as the ram you are using is not TCCD/TCC5 (-1) BH5 or UTT (-2).

ballistix 1GB sticks will be considered generic for the decision of which BIOS to use you must use -3 in all instances (618-3 is a good BIOS).

I will deffo use -3 but you think 618 is the one to go with? Not 510? Also I've just installed windows using diff mem - going to try and get my pc sorted before I fiddle with different memory. I'm using an X2 at what point should I install things? I was planning on doing it in this order:

Chipset drivers

xp critical updates

vid card drivers

other periphial devices

software

I need to download AMD X2 drivers (i assume from the AMD site) - when should I do this? after the chipset drivers?

Thanks for the help :)

EDIT: once ive done all the above I will try the ballistix again and set the timings to something loose, like 3-3-3-8. What are 3-3-3-8 called in the BIOS as there are loads of other timings and I get confused :o

Didn't realise there was a 704! Where is the best place to get these?

Make Sure If You Use The 704 Bios Do Not Use The 123% Or Higher Special Vid Control - This Could Bow Up Your Processor And Mobo!!

Is it worth flashing to 704 with these problems? People on DFI board are suggesting not to flash to it.

Thanks for the link scorchio.
