Hi there everyone , im slowly building my own pc , at the moment i have a corsair gs700watt psu , i5 4670k and looking at getting the corsair 900d, ive been stuck for a while in what board to get , mainly ill be listening to music , inthernet etc but building it for gaming and wanting to do oc and water cooling too , so not sure if to go for the MSI MPOWER MAX Z87 ,MSI XPOWER Z87 or MAXIMUS VI FORMULA which would be best out of these 3 all have there good points just stuck for what one plus i hear bout the problems with ASUS but don't you with everythink nowa days haha please get back as be much appreciated cheers chris

First off what do you plan on watercooling? A 900D isn't something you should be investing in if you only plan on doing a moderate loop. Its more of an extreme loop case. There are better alternatives for cheaper prices.

Out of all the boards you listed go with the one you think is the best looking and will match your PC theme the best. Though the Xpower board is way overkill...

I can't comment on the others but I have the Asus Maximus IV Formula and I'm pretty pleased with it. I also just finished a custom waterloop but decided against using the cross-chill cooler in the loop as I read a few reports of possible corrosion but not confirmed but still didn't want to risk it. Also I think them things are a bit of a gimmick and/or probably a bit of a waste of time if you are just doing a moderate overclock.
I also found the BIOS a bit overwhelming at first and it took me a very long time to get a moderate over clock stable. I found a really decent guide on the ROG website with a load of recommended settings for all the power and advanced features on the board which then helped me get my own over clock settings nice and stable.

I'm really happy with the board in general but it did take me a long while to get used to the bios.

Hope that's some help

Thats just people faffing mate - dont worry about it

yeah if you're not doing a full custom loop, go for a diferent case as the 900d is totally overkill

Would it make any difference to stability tho? If so, I might add it into the loop when I next take it apart...

Ahhh I was talking about the corrosion side of things. The M6F did get quite warm but not hot. I think if you can make it look tidy why not.

If it was going to build a rig with it Id use it if it looked ok, if it made it messy Id not be bothered about missing it out.

Yeah, I read an article on the ROG website about this apparent corrosion and they did a shit load of testing and it came back was all good.

Yep, I think I'll look into adding it into the loop but as you said, if it looks too messy I'll leave it out. I'm going for that simple/clean look :D

haha hey guys thanks for feed back and didn't expect to get this much people so appreciate that alot , well one i like being different and going that step more with things , reason i was thinking with the 900d is fact i want a decent looking case plenty of room etc but also fact for future proof as i don't know what else i would add in future so i won't be limited , as at this moment it will just be moderate as you guys said but i want to get more into it and oc , as at the moment i have a strike x advance case but want to go for a bigger better case and doesnt limit me in future plus not limited by sizes of mobo etc and tidy as psu etc will be hidden underneath want to do it properly so don't wanna buy things then decide to buy another case , as for water cooling be obv the cpu , graphics card and mayb ram aswell , as be doing alot of gaming and just want it to be cooled not worry about it and just be cool when playing and different to everyone else, before , i was going to go for the gd65 gaming thanks to tinytomlogan as he loved the oc genie button haha , but then i wanted to do more and just different and the case limits me ,

the xpower prob is definitely overkill haha but i want to eventually get more involved etc but if i want to do it more extreme or more overclocking i know the mobo is more than capable , but probably be the mpower , but with the star citizen game etc and games being more demanding etc just want to be more step ahead , as have a laptop but graphics wasn't good enough for dayz so just don't want to be restricted again , mayb go for 750d or any recommend any cases or parts etc at the moment i just have a corsair gs700 watt 2013 gaming edition , i5 4670k was going to go for the i7 4770k but won't really use hyperthreading , and just the case at the moment , cheers chris

No problem dude.

If you are thinking of doing an extreme overclock then I'd say that the Asus M6F will be sufficient. Any board in their ROG range I'd say, can handle a pretty extreme overclock. Ive got my 4670K sitting comfortably at 4.4ghz but I've had it almost stable at 4.6ghz. I guess it depends on how "extreme" you want to go.
In terms of cases, I'm currently using the Corsair 540 Air and I love it. It was great to water cool and perfect size for what I need. Maybe have a look at that but it might be a bit small for you.

I think it would be easier if you gave us the hardware you want in the build. Then add in the things you may want to do in the future. This will help us find a case for you and give you better accurate overall advice.

ive already been looking , case wise im going to go for the corsair 750d , lol nah the only thing im stuck on is the mobo , other parts im fine on and hardware will be fine just asking what other people would suggest or had experience with that's all , like ssd and graphics cards etc im fine on just the mobo due to they both seem good by websites but some people have said different as mainly at the moment i want it for gaming etc so be either the Maximus VI Formula or the MPOWER MAX z87 but what one would be better like quality and hardware etc
