Maximus Extreme & MX2

This morning I finally had the time to sort out my motherboard. NB and SB temps have been getting annoyingly high (65ish) and thats just after 20 minutes or so of torture..

I had read that re-applying the TIM between NB and cooler makes a big difference, so this is where I would start.

BEWARE!!

Removing the heatpipe assembly was hell, took me around half an hour. Then, once it was off, I had to sand the TIM that was on there off.. It was like cement. After 20 minutes Id only managed to remove the big lumps- It would have to do for now...

Whilst doing that I also replaced the TIM on my Q6600, from AS5 to MX2 as that was also hitting 65ish (I also tightened down further, using rather a lot of force- not really recomended).

Anyway, the results:

Thats 10 degrees of CPU and NB, Im simply gobsmacked... MX2 Is godly!

(my ram overclock wasnt bad either).

Hope this helps someone

Yeah I've found MXII to be seriously good ever since it came out... It just makes me laugh when people ask what TIM to use, there are still people just instantly saying AS5.... It is not the best.

Sssh, I`ve still got a fist-full of AS5 to go through b4 I buy anything else :p

Guess it could go-off ?!?! That`d be an excuse.

Lol, well I used AS5 On the cpu before MX2, and although tightening a bit more would reduce temps, not by 5-10 degrees!
