Matrix, DCII or what..?

So, here I am, tired of my saggy old GTX260, looking for a new graphics card..

I can't decide wich one to buy. My original plan was to go easy and buy myself a 6950, because I generally play Counter-Strike 1.6 (What a laugh, huh?)

But the release of the Matrix GTX580 got me excited, since I have a Rampage III Extreme.

I don't know, if it's worth buying the Matrix, or just go with a DCII and overclock it slightly?

Since it's in the early days I've not seen any results from it yet, so I've got NOTHING to compare it with.

Now I think it's time for the crowd to give me some help here :3

If you are pretty much going to be playing Counter Strike and maybe some other source games or something the 580 matrix will kind of be a waste tbh. I would stay stick with a 560TI, or 6970, maybe a 570.

Mate if I wanted "not wasting" I'd probably go AMD instead. I'm @ the Rampage III Extreme with an i7.. It would just be strange to have a smaller GFX card...

FYI, I'm not playing any source game. Counter-Strike 1.6 is before source. Came out -99 ^^

Sure I play other games. But not really much, and I've only got 1 display, 1920x1080. That means the next card is 90% showoff!

well in ur title u did say or what so someone suggesting a 560ti isnt far off. Besides the 560ti's are one helluva punch packer and will do more than you need for your current game playings. Plus its considerably cheaper than ur other suggestions. I'd advise leaving off the or what next time if you dont want mid range suggestions.

I think a 560 would be fine and get the direct Cu 2 and OC it a bit and you'd be laughing.

But Also out of the matrix and the 580 Ditect Cu 2, the Matrix is a nice card but it is just like a 580 with a few extra bells and Whistles to make it a extreme overclockers friend so i would just get the 580 and OC that as far as I could then wind it back to a safe temp range.

Well the ROG GTX 580 Matrix cards are out for pre-order in the UK, actually not as silly a price as I had thought tbh

Lucky you guys, its a extra $150AU (100 pounds) over here

Oh well, I'll try to explain a bit.

I'm a student, so I've saved up sometime to get this "far" I might say. I've got 5k in SEK (Swedish) to get a card,

5000 SEK :

£ 486,14

AUS $ 729,78

$ 784,93

€ 566,03

And here in Sweden, the Matrix GTX580 costs 4300 SEK, (£418,08)

and the GTX580 DCII is around 3900 SEK, (£379,19).

Then to "waste" my saving buying a GTX560Ti is not what I'm up for this time. I want some badass shiet, since I'm planning on some BF3 when it gets released aswell.

I could get a GTX590, but that mother of GFX cards costs 6000 SEK, which is 1k over my budget.

I would go the matrix then

Bragging rights.

Meant to be better OC's, Will probably be the pick of the best 580 chips on the card.

Will match your ROG board.

if you had said this in the first post ppl wouldnt of even gone the 560ti route as suggestions.

Ok back to ur topic then since we have all the info now. If you want badass shite then I'd go with a 3Gb version of the 580 more future proof for ya and will still be able to oc well. This gives you the oppertunity to better use dual monitors if you decide. Not saying the 1.5Gb model wont but the 3Gb will do better. IMHO the matrix is more for the extreme enthusiast that would most likely Dice or LN2 it.

I have no intentions what so ever going 3GB in a single GPU card, sorry dude. But personally I have no use, what so ever for that much. 1,5GB is well enough for a 3monitor setup with another card.

@The Danish dude, we don't seem to have the Lightning in stock in Sweden. Last known price was 5059SEK

(4 271DKK, as you said)

Also, I would not buy it mate.. If I get an Asus motherboard I usually buy an Asus GFX card to it. I don't know why that is, but it's always been like this. Right now I've got a Gigabyte GFX card, guess my last mobo brand? ^^

tell ya what then why not research it a bit then and we'll stop givin ya adevise since you dont seem to take it for how its intended. If your going to do 2 monitors on a single card I would strongly suggest you research what the extra mem will do for it. As I said before you said OR WHAT!! in the origional post why not save others time here and list the cards you want only and say these are the only ones I am looking at

I'll stop trying to help you now as it seems to not be what you want

Peace out

I would do some research on video memory and look at some reviews, Also how long will it be before you buy your second card? Isn't the Matrix a limited edition card?

There really is never going to be a non-sentimental difference when you use different manufacturers for a GPU and a Motherboard.

Tbh, the 1.5GB is just about enough.

Have you considered an SLI setup, say 2x 6870s?

It will be a waste of money buying a matrix if you only play Cs 1,6.

Most smartphones on the market today can play CS 1,6

Matrix is designed for extreme overclocking and if you only want to run it on air then what is the point of buying it?

Get a reference GTX580 if you want that card. A reference design card overclockes better then the non reference extreme overclocking design cards most of the time.

He said he is going to do more than CS 1.6

But I do agree kinda with Rasmus66 I would just get a normal 580 probably not reference just the direct Cu II unless as you said you just want a bad ass video card
