Opening ports specific to applications is doen through the router (of course you have to llows the unit to communicate throught any firewall you are using also).
I do not know the speicific of your router but on my linksys they give me a url to open in my browser (starting 192.168.xxx.xxx) then I have to enter a username and password.
The you have to look for a feature called port forwarding and activate the ports from there (also specify whether they are outgoing/incoming or both TCP/UDP or summit).
Hope this helps sorry its a bit flowery.
