Mainboard Power Question

My motherboard only has a 4pin 12v support input but psu has 8 pin out put. As long as yellow wires at top and black at bottom will it be ok to plug just haf of it in?

This if for the CPU power yeh? The socket on the top of the board? If so check that the 8 pin splits in half. Report back when done.
