After getting my shiny Mach II the other week, i wasnt entirely happy with the temps and overclock i was getting on my A64 3500.
Lots of chatting to other forum members it seemed that i wasnt getting sufficient contact on the cpu.
So i started to loosen the bolts off slowly one turn at a time on each of them until i'd got the left hand one out - it was then that alarm bells started to ring!!!!! THE RIGHT HAND BOLT WAS JUST TURNING AND TURNING
After about 10 minutes of head scratching and splinters, i came to the conclusion that the pole from the mounting plate had sheared off, so decided to bite the bullet and pull the head off.
Sure enough there it was - still screwed into the bolt was the pole sheared straight off from the mounting plate, and try as i might - i couldnt remove the bolt from the sheared off pole. AAAARGH!!!!!!
In the end i had to take it into work and hope that the engineers could remove it (gently).......
Remove it they did but not without some minor damage to the plastic on the underside of the evap head.......(im blubbing like a baby by now BTW) which has also resulted in the original screw and spring retainer in the head not being there........
Now after i picked myself up off the floor (well when the engineers got tired of waking over me) i started to think how i could overcome this little problem of holding the evap head down to the mounting plate (when i source a replacement) and i came up with a hold down plate that sits on top of the head and use extended bolts to secure it to the mounting plate (i know i know...when i source one). So i got the engineers to cut me a plate out and fabricate it so it sits snugly on top of the head.
