mach 2 ST ????????? ANY GOOD

hello every 1 i am looking at getting 1 of these but i cant find any reviews on them i can only find ones for the gt and normal mach 2s i cant aford a gt or normal and this seems to be in my price range i would like to no a couple of things first though 1 is it noise or silent(ish) 2 i have read in forums alot of peoples mobos dieing using these badboys due to condensation and i am just wondering how this can happen 3 how far could i take a 3.2c p4 i do no that it is down to memory as well 4 what power is needed ie does it run of your psu or does it go through the mains any help would be greatful and links to reviews would be appreciated thank you

Hi there Cowboy... Thanks for joining my forum.

The ST is a very good piece of kit actually, the only difference between this and its more expensive brother is the lack of USB connectivity and no display - so you cant control the fans or anything like that - that said it's equally as powerful as the Mach II and will get your 3.2 to 4ghz or thereabouts - maybe even higher if you have a good chip.

Condensation can be a killer if you dont recognise the symptoms early enough - but to be honest out of 130 build I have only suffered condensation twice myself. Look at my FAQ for fitting the P4 kit and this will give you some idea.

I would use the most powerful psu you can, you will get better results.
 
wow a reply in 5 minutes thats a record for me thanks for a very fast reply :) i have a 360w psu but that is at max at the mo so would a 550w be enough for it also i have a p4c800-e deluxe mobo (birthday present of me folks) but my memory i think is going to be my weak link i have 3200 speed memory 1 stick been geil and the other was a cheap nasty stick from pcworld same speed the thing is i dont want to buy new memory if i dont need to so will my memory get me to 3.8 or above ?????

Hi cowboy, nice to see new people, do you know off hand what Geil stick you have? Geil is pretty good for overclocking usually, if this stick is good what i'd addvise doing is using that stick for the team time to get your clock up and then as soon as you have the funds, buying another matching stick and use them in dual channel, should give you the best performance.

550W would be plenty if its from a decent PSU, don't buy just any old generic PSU. Look at quality name brands (sparkle, fortron, antec, enermax, TTGI, thermaltake, PC power&cooling etc) also look at their rails.
 
Yeah Tagen got some good reviews and many people have purchased them, only seen a couple of complaints about the rails not being as good as those in the reviews.

Would recommend antec, enermax or PC power&cooling.

 
ive read one or two bad reviews on the rails but lots and lots of good ones, i personally dont have any troubles with the rails :P
 
hi every 1 thanks for replying i was thinking of going with enermax, i am not sure on what type my mem is coz i got it of my m8 with it not working on his mobo but the is a sticker on it and i have got all the info of it here it is

ddr400 cl=2.5-6-3-3

made in taiwan

2003-q2 qc ok

not sure if that makes sense but i can tell u that the memory is in a blue aluminium shield thing i am not sure if i can get more of the same, also i no that the mach 2s run below zero and all that but what could i expect with my cpu overclocked (by the way i am really thinking of ordering 1 now i just got in from work and i got the blue screen of death looks like my cpu had overheated and shut down i cant c how like i have a thermalright 947u with a tornado but the tornado is on a controller and i had it turned down but the temps were fine this morning when i left so god nows

i can get 1 for about 370 thats the st version not includeing deliver S**t visa card is sweating already not sure but i might be wrong i have read in these forums about ordering of here or something like i said i might be wrong
 
the ram u mention is the dragon value series (think this is its name) im not quite sure how well this performs at higher FSB's

Though id give u some advise tho Cowboy.

If you want lots of performance then u gotta shell out the cash, if its worth doing, its worth doing properly is my favourite saying :P however as much as i would of liked a GT i cudnt afford one till next month and i wnated my mach2 now so i had to settle with reg mach2 :P

Your ram is gonna limit ure max FSB o/c (unless you use a lower divider which is gonna lower performance drasticly) im not sure if ure ram will get you to 3.8, if either of them will it will be the Geil. And i do sthink ull want a good PSU also.

So ure thinking ouch thats lots of dosh? Think of the cooling unit as an investment, i dont think prommie is gonna be becoming cheap just yet and nvetiv bring out new CPU kits wen newer CPU models come out meaning you shud be able to use for future gens of CPU too.
 
lo m8 well i have decided to get an st but the memory is going to have to wait till i pay some more of my visa but i will be getting an st and a new psu i will hopefully be ordering it in the next couple of days i will keep u posted also do u now any were that has reviews on the st at all, all i can find is reviews on the gt and normal ones ?????????
 
cant say that i do, sorry mate, glood luck with ure oder, hope u can oc ure rig nicely, seems something about my CPU/ram has grounded me :(
 
axer by your sig u have got 1ghz out of it and u have a cpu that is not even available in the world to buy yup thats some grounding :P
 
cowboy, i made my sig ready for my mach2 :P hense all the * are properties i have to fill in still. Im stuck at like 3 odd ghz atm, i got either a bad CPU or duff ram, phils gonna determine which is the case tho adn ill buy a new 1 :P
 
lo m8 i will probably be in your shoes soon with most likely duff mem phil says i should get my machy on montay or tuesday so am sat at home twidlling my thumbs nightmare :P
