Hello people! long time no see for those of you who may remember me

neway streight down to the point...

i now have a macbook pro...

and i have exausted my ability to try and connect it to both my pc and laptop to share files

both the pc and the laptop run windows vista home premium

i discovered the "go" "smb server" thing by accident

i know how to connect, but when i put in the username and password of either my pc or my laptop, it says fail

for my pc, for example, i do "ian-pc\ian" and then enter my password....which i know to be correct...and it doesnt work, same for my laptop

i have tried just "ian" and once again, failure

if anyone can shed any light on the issue, i'd be most apreciative...thanks

ahh okay, i take it he's as busy as ever and catching him would be like catching a elephant with a flyswatter...

...you actually remember me? lol

update, ive fixed the network issue partially, i can now share with windows computers, for future reference, you go to settings, and you click sharing, and enable smb sharing, in the file sharing options, and it works

but how do i get a shared printer on a network to work with a macbook pro?

the method i used for file sharing does not work for this, the printer is plugged into my switch ....

and my macbook pro is connected to the same network wirelessly...

that's definitely weird. That's what I've used in the past to add printers. Are you logged in as root or a super user?

ahh, found it! its in system preferences if anyone else needs it, they must have moved it for this version of mac

system prefrences, printer

not in utilities

thanks everyone for the help
