hey chaps i've got a macbook pro, one of the early ones and i believe it's got a 100gb drive, now i was intending on getting the 160gb 7200rpm one(mainly because i use final cut studio hd and its like 50+gb total install and i dont really want 50% of my drive gone before i even start...), but i just spotted the 200gb version still 7200rpm

linky

will this be usable? or should i get the 160?

but i know apple stuff is basically limited to what they support so i dont know if i should get the 200 which i haven't spotted on their spec, or the 160 which i know they used as its identicle to the model they use :S i could do with the extra 40gb :S

any more advice guys?

I've installed FCP 2ce in so many weeks (almost an hour and a half each time!).

I think u need to consider also how big a scratch file/etc it would want to create depending on the work your going to do.

52g + whatever.

Afaik, a drive is a drive, but as with most laptops, u will need to watch the power consumption. Best place to seek advice on this would be a dedicated mac/pro site/forum. There are many good ones out there, even found one at one point that had a whole history of Macs on it and how far they were upgradable. Be damned if I can remember what it was called tho. Google is u'r friend.

fair enough, i'll have a look around and see what turns up i guess i mean if it doesn't work i could just stick it in my pc right? lol

power isn't TOO much of a problem because i nearly always have to plugged in when in use just need the space really, guess its another case of suck it and see aint it

Ya I don`t think u`ll have the overheat issue really, as it appears the drive u`rs came with is `good-enough` anyway.

Issues can come when `a` laptop has something like a 5400rpm and u chuck in a 7200 larger drive, and u find the chasis of the laptop is getting hotter than it used to. Hotter generally means more power consumption.

Think I`ve effed the battery on mine doing this.
