M2 Help

Hi guys,

I finally got my computer up and running, but now I've got the issue that my M2 SSD isn't showing in my BIOS or in windows. From what I can find online they don't need drivers and should just be plug and play. I have the ASUS Gene VII, and the M2 I'm using is the Intel 530 120GB. It fit in the MBD fine. It's a huge bummer because I wanted to use it as my boot and storage for a few extras.

Does anyone have any ideas or tests I could do to find out what might be the problem?

Thanks!

in the bios, there something to do with the PCI-E bandwidth allocation, have you gone through this??

If you look at your motherboard guide you have to enable the M.2 in the bios matey. You have to choose between one of the black PCIE slots and the M.2

Oh man. I was under the impression it just shared bandwidth, as in I wouldn't get the full 800mbps on the Raidr. Would I still be able to use the M2 sata slot with the mPcie card? (The combo card that is)

Depends what slot its in matey - read your manual and see what one it affects.

If the RaidR is in the PCIE that the M.2 uses then you actually 'turn off' the big slot on the board and then the M.2 uses it. There is no sharing.

I cant really help much more, you will have to read your manual and work out where you have stuff fitted.

Hmm, the manual says I should be able to have both slots active. I've tried it without the raidr and its still not even recognised in the BIOS. Are there any tests I can do to see if its just a faulty drive

Looking into your drive then its actually a SATA m.2 - the rog boards only support PCIE

So the drive is fine, youve just bought the wrong type

I didn't even realise there were different types T.T

Now I feel like a knitwit. I was in such a rush to get a different SSD since the one I originally was purchasing was out of stock I didn't even think to check that. Just saw M2 and bought it. Thanks for all the help anyway, I really appreciate it.

Im not entirely sure mate - ask the retailer.

With your board it HAS to be PCIE (I think the interface is ever so slightly different btw) easy to look at the specs and find out

Don't feel so bad now haha

Sorry to be a bother again, but which of these would work?

There are some that don't have SATA in the heading, but for instance the ADATA one still says it's a SATA interface. I just want to be 100% certain I won't buy the wrong one again.

Have a look at these M.2 pcie ssd

Check for compatibility with your motherboard.
