Losing my hardrive on Asus formula 3

Hey guys, I've had a little issue with my secondary hard drive. It's a WD caviar black 1tb 6gbps sata 3 drive.

Now I know that my Asus rampage formula 3 uses the marvel chipset to manage the sata 3 ports. Maybe once or twice a week, sometimes when I'm using files such as photos and videos while rendering from that drive. It just disappears from sight. Also doesnt show in windows as my F drive...(its not there) I formatted it when I built the rig, had to before it recognized it in windows. BIOS always see's it... It will reappear after restarting. It's never failed during gameplay(my steam files are on that drive) Only when viewing photos, or just regular work on the pc. It's really annoying when trying to produce a video, and poof. No files. LOL! Like I said , maybe once or twice a week. I know the old sandybridge had issues, but this is a I7-950 1366 Bloomfield. Maybe they still have an issue??? Anyone point me in a good direction??? I'll do some searching around. Thanks.

issue is probably hard drive, sandy bridge chipset had problems but i think they were different to what your describing, and how would 1366 after 3 years have this problem nobody knew about...

if it isnt happening to any other drives then its the wd black itself isnt it??? use ya brain

The drive never disappears in bios... even when windows drops it. Checked cables as well. Im starting to think windows is making it go to sleep.

Control Panel-->Hardware and Sound-->Power Options-->Change Plan Settings-->Change advanced power settings-->Hard disk-->Turn off hard disk after...

Check that. Though I'm looking from my laptop at the moment....

That could be one cause of your hard drive disappearing.

Found out searching around on my phone that asus has revision 2 and 3 boards with" newer" marvel chipsets for the sata 3 . X58. Chpsets are having trouble with marvel drivers. Quick way or fix is to use stock microsoft drivers and not download marvel's. Allowing you to still use the sata 3 ports
