If your looking at that much I'd go for a 1080p Samsung HDTV tbh

i was thinking about it and i am using at the moment a 56" Samsung HDTV 1080P in my living room for all my console gaming (PS3/Xbox360/Wii) and computer movies and surfing but it is not very comfortable for computer gaming and the res is not as high as i can get on a computer monitor (or at least not to my knowledge) as well as the fact that the smallest 1080P i found from Samsung is a 40" which will be too big for my Desktop so...

P.S. I'm also willing to pay less obviously this is just the max

well if you will go to my project thread

you will see I'm building a new computer and i actually asked the same question there (can a single 8800 Ultra handle a high res 30" monitor) so.. if you can answer that i will appreciate that very much thank you

Hmm well I would say yes for now but once some toughwer games come out it may struggle...that's a high res.

Personally if you don't mind a slightly smaller monitor I'd get a 24" screen, but Dell and Apple both do very nice 30" ones...just less inputs

i say 24" is about the limits of how big a desktop display should be tbh.

24" is plenty imo and if you have a good graphics card you wont have any troubles running games in native res.

as you said you already have a nice tv for your consoles so i would just go with a 24" dell.

spend the extra cash on some games or better pc parts or something ;)

Raging.

maybe i will just be satisfied with my 24" samsung and wait for a new Nvidia Chipset and the 9900 GPUs before i go and buy a new 30" screen :-P

If it`s purely desktop, go for a Dell 24". (or 27" if available)

Samsung 32"+ are marvellous, and great TV screens, but they can`t match the color def of the Dell screens imo. I got one under the other atm, and u can tell when u do a multiview thing.

EDIT: Or smash the piggy bank and get an Apple Cinema screen - total droolness.

Apple Cinema screens generally use the same screens as Dell..I know the 2405 was the exact same panel as the 24" Apple Cinema screen

BTW there most deff is a 27" Dell

I have the 24" dell, if you want to game at native res and high quality then you need at min the GTS level card.

At 30" you need the highest card or sli...

I think 24" is a sweet spot

well i already have a Samsung 24" so i will stay with it for my new rig and once the 9900 GPU will be out along with the new Nvidia Chipset i will look into upgrading to a bigger screen thanks for all the help :-)

lmao ya I bet u`r right, plus they tag on $1000 just for fun :p

24 would probably be the highest I goto for a mainly pc used desktop tbh. I`d um-and-arr over a 27", but fall in love with it once I got used to it.

OK 8 series cards do support high res up to 1920 x 1080 which is basically 1080p this is from experience also

if your screen is less then 42" then you will not notice the difference between a 1080p screen and a 1080i screen therefore i would say go for a 32" screen i think thats just right and bigger as i had a 37" it isnt very comfortable and it will feel like your going blind when the screen goes white (like in CSS when a flash bang is thrown  )

hopw this helps mate
