Looking at swiftech apex ultra to cool my e6600@3.6

I currently use the zalman 9500led to cool my e6600 with small fans on my north and south bridges. My System is not quite stable and I was looking at going h20 as my zalmans at it upper limits running prime temps 48-55 deg c load.

although running at 3.2 the zalman is fine no errors under prime.

E6600@3.6 Freq : 3603.9 MHz (400.43 * 9) Asus p5w dh delux 2gb gskill 6400 hz.7900gtx@700mhz 1800 ram

on air RAM Ratio : 1:1 RAM Timings : 4-4-4-12 (updated)

CPU-Z Database (ID : 113059) updated

any thoughts on my next move as I dont want to trade in my zalman for a turkey that costs 3 times the price any thoughs welcome.

The zalman is a pretty good cooler, will the scythe do the buissness? it looks a bigger cooler has anyone traded one of these in in place of the zalman and got better temps? on a heavy overclock. I want to bring the 55 deg load down to 45 deg load @3.6 oc with my next purchase.

I know some ocs have hit up to 4ghz on h20 on a e6600 h20 rig, now I dont want to push those limits yet until I have had some play time out of my current rig but running this rig at 3.6gh is my goal.

If h20 cooling is the way to then please

spec me some parts and I will do a custom build on your advice.

IMO if you are looking to knock 10oc off your temps then water cooling is the only way to go.

I'll try and spec you something up in a while - bit busy atm :(

OK then:

Swiftech Apogee or Storm (depending on budget) here

XSPC 120mm or 240mm RAD here

Enheim D5 or DDC here

Nice phat tubing, a T line or res (your choice) and some Jubilee clips

Should keep you under £180 and drop a few *C off :)

Sighhhhh, the MP-05 series are a LOT better than the Asspogee (sp? ;)) and are around the same price. Now someone bust in and give me backup on this ;)

Looking good on the h20 system spec, any thoughts on the waterchill pump with the built in res and software control or is it better to kis! and go with the d5 dcc.

also do I need fan controls if I go with the 240mm rad. or do I just chain in multiple moalex's to the 120mm fans to the rad?

last time I watercooled it was a beer cooler o home machined block on the one of the first athalons with a goldfinger device to oc it so I am a little out of touch. that oc didnt go very well as the ram chips were a poor batch.

anyway the e6600 flies so i hope to make the most of it.

I rendered a video yesterday to dvd megga quick and fear runs in hi res with all bell and whisles.

Nothing beats the D5, it has a high gpm rate, lots of pressure, it's quiet, and it pwns. I used to use a pair of them in series and wow, those things really produce some pressure. When you start getting in to all of that software controlled mumbo jumbo, they've spent 99% of the time working on that and not the pump itself which is pretty much utter crap.

For the block I'd look at the Swiftech Storm.

Haha, obviously Frag you're just a touch behind. If you look over at XS, the DDC with modded top is considered the top dog right now. Even the cooling god Cathar considers it the dream pump right now. Too bad it's kind of expensive... So basicly, if you can fit it in your budget go for a DDC with modded top, otherwise just go with a D5. For block, you might as well just go with an Apogee (and use the extra money on the DDC ;) :p). Cathar says that the view of the Apogee being just as good as the Storm when the IHS is on is well-founded, so why pay more? :)

Aye, and when that someone is Cathar, well you'd better listen! :)

Edit: Strange, somehow suddenly I can't find where he said that... hmm...

I think he said that the apogee competes with the storm yes, but it seems only with the ddc. Storms impingement is just a terrible flow killer.

its DDC and is also known as the MCP-350. you can buy several different tops for it one of which is a resevoir, but no there is no form of kit with it

So looking at the kit suggested the swiftech apex ulta contains apogee block d5 pump a twin rad four fans and tube. It looks as though this is a good place to start and add extra rads and waterblock (gpu) in the future as budjet allows? or is the rad with this kit a none starter?:(
