Looking at SB i7 setup. Just wondering what you guys think the best p67 motherboards are?

Been looking around and seen the competition. Price is not a factor because i know the most expensive is around £300 and i can afford that? What does anyone think? Anyone got one? Also plan to overclock. Not done this before but theres tutorials everywhere!

X58 UD3R V2 + i7 950. Forget p67.

Yeah I am with Todd on this one, P67 is nice but X58 is where it is at still, and with intels price drops you can get a I7 960 for the same price that the I7 950 was.

Edit: BUT if you did have your heart set on P67 then the Asus Maximus 4 Extreme is a fine enthusiast class motherboard. You will need to wait until the re-release of sandy bridge to get it of coarse but it is a good board.

I must agree. The p67 and socket 1155 are nice if that is what you are looking for, they do work well and put up some pretty good scores, but x58 is where its at.

surely the sb is newer and scores higher in the tests and reviews. it is the quality of motherboard that lets this cpu down because originally i looked at the asus rampage extreme 3 compatible with the cpu you mensioned. isnt the sb more futureproof and better oc?

nothing from intel is futureproof. they change sockets too often. Better OC? maybe, maybe not. depends on your definition of "better" for a beginner it is a bit easier, but not so fulfilling. I would say watch Tom's new review of the G1 Assassin, he talks about the differences between SB and 1366.

If your planning on a 970 build x58 is king. If your not planning on tri or quad sli, just get a 2600k with a p67 since you dont need the extra pci lanes, and save some moolah. But if your looking into i7 950, 960, well 2600k will give them a nice spanking. But like you said if money truly isn't an issue...then X58 Ftw. Also knowing what you want to do with the build might help. Anykind of video editing will be better on x58 with that triple channel ram to chew on.
