Little high res trouble

Ok so i seem to have this problem. My gf INSISTS on buying me this

Awesometasic LCD for a late bday present. Yea ill love it, but wow thats alot of money to spend on me :/

Anyways here in lays the question mates.

2560x1600, wow thats super high res x5. Im running my 7950GT and X2 4800+ but why do i not think thats gonna be enough. Im running perfectly fine on 1440x900 but WOW 2560. Didnt think there was such thing. Umm, im guessing ill need an 8800ultra right? Or at least get another 7950GT (cause SLI excels in high res right?) Any ideas what i should do to prepare for this bugger?
 
First that is an incredible display congrats man.

A 1440x900 display is 1.296 megapixels, 2560x1600 is 4.096. So your new display would have 3.160 times as many pixels. I would expect that the effect would vary depending on the game but I wouldn't be surprised to see a 50% drop in frame rate.

If it were me I would see how my system handled it and then go from there. A G92 would probably own.
 
Yeaaa i plan on getting a G92 as soon as it comes out. IDC about price, ive waited this long. 9800GTX straight up. BUT shes getting this soon. Were talking, possibly around september end of august. Sooo idk what to do until then. This screen and that res is going to raipe my machine, and you gotta understand i got the 19" Widescreen not to long ago becaue i knew my machine could handle it. We where just having a convo and browsing Newegg and posting links saying i want this ect. Just for fun you know, and she goes ok. Im getting you that Samsung. At first i thought she was joking, but no shes not. And i CANT talk her out of it.... :( :( I feel horrible but her money.

Anyways, im screwed till november aint i? I expect about 50-60% drop in FPS as well.
 
LOL... it will be fine. Just when your playing games turn the res down :) my dad has a 30" apple display and its WELL WORTH IT!!!!!!! but when he wants to play cod2 on it i had to put the res right down.. still looks AMAZING tho. Will take alot of getting used to mind lol.
 
Aye but i wanna play at the top res :( ahaha, soon i guess i will. I guess i can try 1920x1200? Wouldnt hurt, i dont think it would lag as much. Dirt will kill me though, bah 1024x768 on a 30". I cant imagine the pain.

Thanks though, i cant wait even though i feel horrible shes paying 1300 bucks on me :/
 
Well you better thank her... Use your imagination, I'm sure you'll think of ways ;)

I can relate to how you feel about her spending money on you, back when I was 19 I dated an older woman for a while, she earned tripple what I did and always spoilt me. I kinda felt emasculated but she told me not to worry, that she wanted to etc so I just lived with it. You got a pic of the (new?) girlfriend?

Anyways, 30" is awesome. When I went from 19" to 24" it was like - woah!

As for the games, as everyone has said, lower the res, ignore the black frame and enjoy the game, wait until November and jump on the 9800gtx :D
 
Back in the day going from my 17" to my 21" CRT was sex, but then i ditched the lug-o-lard CRT. Then going from 17" CRT to 19" Widescreen was even better! I can only imagine what its going to be like going from 19"widescreen to kick your arse 30" awesometastic Samsung. Oh and Mr Smith, i have a picture of me and her in the pic thread. Cept were in cowboy hats hahah. (Typical Texas stereotype eh?) And shes younger than me, shes 16. But she almost makes as much as me, but also dosent have any responsibilities like me. Sooo she can afford it, where as i cant. Her plan is also to get my 19" too ;)
