well look at a linux website

google it

Bah, mate it's a given!!! There are distros for peeps who still want the familiarity and the ease of use of Windows (knoppix for example). Power users who use the command line tend to like Gentoo and Debian. Get yourself over to this website http://www.linuxiso.org/ where there are distros (distributions) of the many variations of Linux. The website is great, it provides links to all the homepages of the various distros, user forum support and updates.

Btw quite a few of the distros are available to download onto a cd, and instead of installing them they can be run as a bootable CD. So you can see if you like the distro before you install it, it can also assist you in finding out what problems you may have with hardware. PM me if you want any help or assistance, and I know Joe is a bit of a Linux guru as well :)

Yeah I use Ubuntu myself, but there are that many distros it's impossible to satisfy everyones flavour. Hope you enjoy the site mate, it's great

as said for beginnser (K)Ubuntu/Fedora core/Knoppix (for power with fimiarliarity) /Suse and also mandrake Linux are all sutiable for beginners; personally id say go for Suse as it has a LOT of preinstalled packages <Suse 9.2 Pro dvd image will have all you need and is available for free legal downlaod from Novell -- HERE> --- DO NOT GO NEAR GENTOO or DEBIAN

If you need any help with linux dont be afraid to drop a line --- i use it for like 5 hours a day and have done for 3 years

Linux also has the best ever Audio player == amaroK == it is very like iTunes but IMO better

if i understand correctly, there are alot of plugins, but how does the command work? like what do i need to know?

ok well a command line is where you enter text such as

gpg -c file which commands program to encypt a file

its quiet difficult to learn, your much better off going for the graphical user interface version

my linux freak friend gave me this link

http://www.iol.ie/~padraiga/cmdline.html

of all the linux commands
