Where the heck was the quality control? I bet they knew about the problem from the get go and swept it under the rug thinking no one would find out or care.

I think you're spot on. Large companies tend to prioritize getting a product out, rather than getting a finished product out. The whole moneygrab mentality n' all...

How many users don't already have UAC disabled?
Agreed. UAC is a resource hog and a nuisance. Keeping it on just extends boot times and has never done anything to protect me more than what my router, AV and firewall already do.

False. If it's a resource hog, it would be disabled from the start. Keeping it on extends boot times that won't make a difference since the majority of people in fact use HDDs. Don't think waiting few more seconds would kill them. Your router, AV, Firewall won't help you if windows doesn't check it in the first place. Because the time it gets to windows for it to check it, it's already bypassed most of everything.

To those with higher end rigs. Makes no difference and won't impact much. SSDs these days are becoming more and more popular so really the boot time argument is moot.

Other than if you are 12 and are on family settings it really does not do much other than annoy you. It's only going to protect you from yourself. Maybe I used to too many other OS's, but people were on the net without any problems long before UAC was created.
