Last straw with windows..

My XP has become nearly unusable taking pretty much 1 minute+ to start up

Random freeze ups

Random crashes and errors

Apps take ages to load although games run fine

The other day calculator took so long to load after a minute 20 or so popped up

The strangest thing is that CPU usage is pretty much always under 10% and that I defrag with diskeeper 2007 regulary and clean with ccleaner often :(

Other than a format is there a quick/quicker way of finding out/fixing this problem? I know ive asked this before but its really bugging me

I cant format till my enclosure and hdd come in 2 weeks or so time

Yea keep up suggestions like that...NOD32 hasnt found anything and neither has adaware and zonealarm pro

I've got 36.9 GB left and its reported as not defragmented by diskeeper

Any tests etc. u want results from?

I have nothing to backup onto :( thats why im waiting for my enclosure and hdd :(:(

Trying now...btw guys ill try anything :p

i'd prob loose the diskeeper, i've never really trusted 3rd party tools that mess with the filesystem. (prob going to get flamed now).

Have you updated drivers,

Removed any programs you dont use,

Used msconfig to stop things from starting up that you dont need.

Oh ok

I've updated any drivers that are accessible to me although im not sure if its all up to date...dont really check too often/at all

I have like practically nothing starting up but will start uninstalling any games i dont use anymore...Xoftspy found nothing

For a disk defrag program use Auslogics Disk Defragmentor.. Its awesome!

UBER QUICK! Plus gets everything done.. Worth a try? :D

I agree with PP Mguire, For me fixing Windows has been impossible.

Sorry that you have had to go through this mess.:(

I onyl say this through experience cause im going through the same damn thing with my internet drive as we speak. I will be formating before the week is over because even when i KNOW what the .exe is and i delete more will come back as .TMP. Yea, once you get spyware only way to truly get rid of it is format.

Hows about downloading something like iolo system mechanic and getting rid of all the crap, then reg cleaner and remove hardware fro all progs you havnt used in 6 months, then msconfigt turning all off that arnt needed.

After that its a reformat,I do mine every 6 months for the same reason and the difference is astounding.

I don`t think there`s a tech person outside of their own pc that would advise anything other than backing up u`r shizzle and reinstalling.

Dows just aint tinkerable to any great fixing extent, and it can either cause u more problems or just simply waste u`r time.

Key usually is to notice u have an issue so u can backup whilst u have the chance to. Longer u w8, the bigger the problem it can create for u.

Think the last windows3 that was semi tinker/fixable was 98se (definately NOT ME. Me was the spawn of Satan itself. Any1 who bought that should`ve been granted a refund on general principle), and not alot of peoples liked to do that. Arguably nt/2000 bleh.

Thanks guys, I have used registry cleaners and all that crap, they find some stuff, fix it...no difference.

I just dont know why the start bar etc. is so laggy whereas it can run games flat out easily.
