Laserjet 1100 printer - installing on xp?

Hey guys

Bit of a weird one

My uncle has a old printer..ya know non usb (serial isnt it?)

Windows XP asks for the windows cd when detecting new hardware...and does nothing

And the website doesnt offer an .exe installation driver thing.

This may sound stupid but when driver installs only give you system files etc. where do you stick them? System32?

Will the hardware then "just work" ?

The .sys files should go into C:\windows\system32\drivers I believe. Do you have any other files than the .sys?

have you tried going through the wizard and selecting "have disk" then browse to the system files?

I'll do a step by step thing in a mo...

EDIT:....

Click no to try and get the driver of the tinterweb, then next

Select "Install from a list or specific location (advanced)

Select "Don't search, i will choose the driver to install

Click "Have Disk..."

Click "browse" and go to where your drivers are.

Click "ok" and go through the rest of the wizard

Should install ok providing the drivers are the correct ones.

Well in this case

there are

1 security catalog file

1 setup information

1 help file

1 PMD file

and about 10 .dll files (application extension)

When doing browse i dont think it was allowing those files to be used and it would then just ask for the xp disk or something
