Laptop

I'm in the market for a gaming laptop. I have been using my iPad for the past 10 months and NOTHING else. The reason is because of where I'm living and not having a spot for my desktop. I'm getting married in December and my current fiancée and I have found a nice apartment to move too in a few months. As much as I LOVE building, maintaining, and overclocking computers I am just restricted on space and I haven't played a PC game in 10 months and I'm just itching to do so. So I'm looking for a nice gaming laptop in the $2000 price range.

If anyone can offer suggestions that would be great, thank you very much.

MSI GT72 Dominator don't look too bad, The MSI GT72 Dominator features an Intel Core i7 4710HQ processor, 12GB DDR3 memory, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M 6GB graphics, 128GB SSD and 1TB 7200RPM hard drive, 17.3in Full HD 1920x1080 display, Killer LAN, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.0, 9 cell battery, SteelSeries backlit keyboard, Windows 8.1 and more. Backed by a 2 year MSI warranty in Aus. it's $2500 here so should be around your money there in the States

OP have you had a look at Clevo? You can customize their laptops and they are pretty good quality too. I've got a p370em AKA NP9370 from them and it is still serving me well. Frankly I think they are better value compared to the MSI G series, though thats just personal opinion. Do not and I mean do NOT go for the Asus G series.

Something from Sager/Clevo would almost certainly be the best value for money. They only really have two main negatives:

1) Being so customisable, they tend to cater for the lowest common denominator, which means they can be very big.
2) Often doesn't mean much to most people, but their speakers on almost all of their laptops are complete garbage. If you're using headphones they're great, but your iPad will easily beat even their highest-end offerings (no joke).

If you want the best bang for the buck though, they're probably your best bet. Others to look at are the 17 and 18 from Alienware, the G751 from Asus, as well as MSI's Dominator line.

had msi gaming laptop and it was bulletproof! And those Steelseries keyboards on them are really nice.

I'm looking at the msi GS70 stealth with the GTX970. While portability is not that important (meaning I don't mind getting a mobile desktop) I do like the thinness of it and it has a 3k display which would be nice and sharp to look at and play SOME games at that resolution. And it is $1999

I would really like a laptop with a 9XX series GPU preferably a 970 or 980.

Seems pretty good to me.

My only concern is that due to its size what kind and how often am I going to run into over heating issues? I know I can use a chill pad but I prefer to not bring it if I can if I decide to game at where I work or something.

I have the GE60 Apache-pro and it gets VERY hot to touch, seems to be able to control below dangerous temps though.

That's what I am afraid of. I know it's expected and it's a sacrifice I would have to make getting such a thin machine. I am not to worried about how hot it gets to touch moreover if the temps can stay cool enough for the components.

That laptop you picked looks nice if you are worried about heat as you said use a cooler pad when you can at least something is better than none some of the time
