A laptop question with a Ati Mobility 7500.

Laptop is a dell : C640...

I know,

I know,

I bet you all are thinking here is a noob, he is dumb. W/E, don't care...

Moving On....

I have this laptop... I have heard rumors saying that you can replace the video card with a different card. First off, is this possible in this model (i just want to make sure, it seems you guys would have a better idea, i trust you knowledge.) I rather not take apart my laptop and risk breaking it for something i can just ask.

If this is, what cards can i pick? What are my options.

Below is other information about the laptop so maybe it will help you,

Thank You so Much

Kyle.

The only thing i am looking for is a card that is better then the 7500, i have nothing against this card, believe me it has been a great card for what i paid for the laptop. I just hope it is able to be updated....

Dell Latitude C640

Input 20v 3.5A

Model No: PP01L

P4 1.8m Cpu

Currently 512 ram.... going to have 1gb soon...

Added wifi

60 GB drive ( add, once was 20gb)

Hello cpuboye11 & welcome to the forums. Feel free to head over to the Introductions area & let yourself be known. Saying that, I have'nt been over there myself yet, DOH! :nono: :whack:

You have pretty much the best card available for this machine. It's the amount of memory that plays a significant part in increasing the performance of a laptop, as it does with a desktop machine. It is good that you are getting 1GB of RAM for this laptop, which is in fact it's max. limit.

Other than that there is'nt much else in my opinion that you could do to physically enhance the capabilities of your laptop, other than to keep the OS clean & your drivers/bios updated.

Looks like the mobility 7500 is still an igp (meaning that it's physically attached to your notebook's mobo)

...so you can't really replace it.

Why WinMxer, thank you for the warm welcome ! :-D

I agree with you 100% of the 1gb plan... To tell you the truth i just bought the ram like 5min ago and it is on its way....

I have heard that some people have poped a ati9600 in here, is that possbile?

Edit - Added

Allargando- I have seen people take the 7500 Out of the Laptop, you can go on ebay and look up the model of the graphics card and the chances of it saying it was out of a c640 is very high.

AFAIK it would not be physically possible to install an ATI 9600 into a C6xx series Dell Latitude. The nearest models that would accomodate this GFX card form factor would be the Dell Latitude 8xxx/C8xx series.

OK, that makes perfect sense... well i thank you for your help! It is 1 AM here so i am going to bed.. lol.. have a couple of tests today, i guess in a few hours so Later, and thanks again!
