Personally what I'd do is a fresh reinstall (providing the disk that came with it is a standard one, and not a dell "sh1t already installed" disk).

Otherwise, just untick them all and see what doesn't work after a restart - then tick the ones that are required to get things working again ;)

All they gave me was...microsoft works...roxio...tiscali and orage AND BT (WTF go away!!) but aha! An operating system disk!! No doubt it will be dell branded though - will slipstreaming it be possible?

Your best bet is to try and boot from it and see if it boots into a Vista installer or a Dell restore utility. If its the standard Vista installer then you might be in luck, otherwise you'll probably just end up restoring a disk image with all the dell crap back on your machine again.

To be honest I've not seen any Dell's recently, so I don't know what they are included with...who knows you might even need to ask Dell for a proper Windows disk :/

What they usually have is the OS installation stuff on C:\ drive, it`s part of the build.

Give Vista a good go on it, give it a fair amount of time - so u can firstly get to grips with it, and then use the experience of what the OS install is like on the style of laptop. I mean, I know that XP will run that much smoother, but it is worth giving it a shot.

What Vista rating does it say the laptop has ?

I have the same laptop and Vista runs fine on it. Vista uses memory for other tasks and then dynamically re-assigns it to do what you need it to, if you need it so don't worry about RAM usage (2gb is more than enough)

I just took off the Dell stuff (took about 1./2hour) and had a perfectly functional, smooth OS. tbh now I go back and use XP it just doesn't feel as good as Vista.

If only 3rd party companies would sort out proper program/driver support, then Vista would be awesome imo

Ya what`s going on with that ? It all seems very slow and labored. Are they not getting the info they want or they badly implementing it ?

Afaic, as with any OS, you program you`r program and you use the libraries/command applicable to the OS -simple.

I'm on Vista ultimate as my party OS I use XP on the other partition for gaming for now.

I disabled UAC, and most of the services via ccleaners start up menu editior * removes them totally* and removed the god awful windows defender and xp firewall and use AVG and the XP one *cos i cannot find a decent one which works  *

I have enough power to run Aero and run BF2142 on maximum settings with an average FPS of 65-75.

So you've disabled all the awesome security features of Vista that makes it a good change from XP and aren't using Nod32 (which works fine btw)

Just...lol

Yup, basically because I trust Microsofts security features as much as I would trust my card details in a theifs hands :)

I run virus scan every evening and spyware scans myself, plus I run NOD32 on my XP install,I was informed it did not work on Vista thanks for headsup :D shall get it installed :D

Know a good firewall?
