Lan Rig (BF4)

Hey guys,

I'm planning on building a "Lan Rig" and have listed some parts below for the build. Right now the products are going to cost me roughly 1200$ US. I pretty much want this rig to run BF4 with high fps and to run smoothly on low to medium settings.

I already have a GPU for this build (MSI GTX670 Power Edition) and I also have a 1TB WD Black for it as-well hence these two parts are not in the build below. I want to base this build around the Cosmos SE so please don't advice me on another case as I saw this case over the weekend and it gave me a semi :P.

- Please can you advice me on any cheaper parts that give out the same performance for the items below.
- Whether all the parts are compatible with one another.
- If I'm missing anything out.
- Or any other recommendations.

Case: Cooler Master Cosmos SE

RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB (2 X 4GB)

CPU: Intel i5-3570k

Motherboard: Asus Maximus V Gene

PSU: Corsair HX750 Gold

Cheers
Eddyyz!

Those links don't work fella

I can look up the parts though(since i know how to use newegg)

That case is rather huge for a lan case.. I know you won't swap it but i really advise you to do so if possible for something else.

Ram is ram can't go wrong.
CPU: why not go for haswell? Mine as well since it's a new build?
Motherboard: Again haswell(z87)
PSU: For a single 670 you could save some money and go for a 650watt PSU.

i lold.
anyways, links are broken.
the cosmos se is a full tower, if you are going to build a PC you want to take to (semi) lans then you should go with something small like a bitfenix prodigy or a corsair 350d. i know you got a boner for it but you can't drive a rally with a formula 1 car.
personally i'd go with a 350d because you can put an h100i in it, lower chance of things breaking by travelling (not that it's very likely in the first place, but you know, can't ever be save enough and air coolers do look hideous).
HX750 is over the top, if you aren't going to do SLi or CF that's a waste of money (look who's talking lol). maybe add an SSD to it and you'll be golden.

Thanks for letting me know, I fixed them now :P
TBH its not really a "Lan case" its just easier to transport than a 900D :P.
Could you please let me know on a haswell CPU and mobo that are in a similar price range?

And yeah I take it 750 is overkill, ill look at the 650w.

Thanks for the response/help!

I'll look at the 350d but the Cosmos SE has got my attention :P

I'll downgrade the PSU and maybe look at adding a SSD!

Thanks for the help!

CPU: i5 4670k
Motherboard: MSI GD65 Gaming or GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-UD3H

Case wise maybe something like a Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 or a Corsair 750D or maybe even a NZXT Switch 810. IMO better and around same price.

SSD: No lower than 120gb.. runs out quicker than you might think lol

i don't agree on the case. he doesn't want to watercool, so he doesn't need a fulltower and he wants to go to lan with it, do you want to carry a 12KG PC to lan? i think the point is to have a small rig you can so to speak carry under one arm while holding a monitor and peripherals in the other one. so why not an matx build that still carries quite a punch with a 4670k and a 670?

Yet he is dead set on a full tower in the first place so i recommended one to him along with a mid tower..

I personally wouldn't mind holding a full tower.. they aren't heavy lol

I don't expect to run around lans with my whole setup in my arms, I don't mind going back to my car to pick up a case. But the SE is really not that big.

Exactly. I feel like you guys know that I'm a skinny mofo :P But its really not that big and as a said above I don't mind going back to my car to fetch some thing else.

Just hope it don't get stolen lol

Anyway i would still opt for a smaller case. The SE is ugly(to me) and other cases are available that are worth more for their value.

I guess we all have our own tastes :P

Re-guarding the PSU, would you recommend the RM650 or the HX650?

Whichever is cheaper tbh.

Have you looked into a SSD yet? Just out of curiosity do you need a new windows? Or will you be re-using your current one?

Well the RM650 is supposedly optimized for Haswell... And its 20$ more than the HX650 which is nothing.

I haven't looked at an SSD, the initial build was quite pricey so was hoping you guys would recommend cheaper parts then I'd look into getting an SSD, you got any idea's?

I guess I will need a new windows, maybe windows 8 (Supposedly BF4 is better optimized with win8).

Honestly go on ebay an search for WIn7.. I have gotten Win7 Ultimate for only 65$ and a full retail version instead of paying 100$ for a Home premium OEM license! It's usually a steal on ebay. IMO win8 isn't worth the cost-epsecially at the same price as win7.

SSD: Depends on leftover budget.

Well it's modular and runs quieter so I would pay the extra $20.

I dind't realize that earlier. Without a oubt worth the extra $20.

I just saw thread title... lan rig and b4?

You're kidding right? :P BF4 won't be a Lan title dude (much to my annoyance)

Seasonic G 550(enough even for a card like the titan) ,stay with 650W if you will sli 2x670 and a psu like the hx 750 is good for 2 titans. a titan use 80W more than a 670

http://youtu.be/p3ut4hj85Hg?t=1m51s

Im just gonna stay with the RM650w. That way I can sli 670. Unfortunately it will be hard for me to source a Seasonic PSU due to where I live.

Yeah im gonna go with it.

Well I got a win7 disc so ill just buy a licence some where .

As for a SSD im gonna go with a 250GB Samsung Evo.

Im happy with the PSU so ill just stick with it.

Well not actually a lan rig for bf4.

What I actually mean is a pc that is semi cheap and easy to carry but that can play BF4 with ease.

If I do play at a friends it would obviously have to be over the net, I just want a rig that is easy to carry and as I said above that can handle the game no problem.

The issue at the minute is BF4 beta is a tough cookie, it seems to work well on some cards and bomb-out on others, it's also not being kind to processors, anything with 4 cores or less doesn't seem to stand a chance!

At this point you want to be looking at at least a hyperthreaded quad core for BF4, but it might be worth waiting until it actually releases to make this judgement as the beta client-side code is a month out of date according to DICE. So final release may play nicer.. but who knows...

I am currently running beta with 60+fps on my 670, although I am rocking a 3930k which obviously helps as it does have hyper threading.

I'm gonna look at only finishing up this in Jan next year soby then im sure Dice would've cleaned up bf4 quite aloy by then.
