thats all good and well but how do i restart wmi???
open up services.msc, and look for windows management instrumentation. See what the status of the service is, and if it's stopped, start it, if it's started, restart it, or try stopping it. It probably won't do much but it's a start :).

that page says u can repair the install raging, when installing windows, do ti as normal, ut when it says " to set up xp opn this partition press enter", press R instead to repair. your settings will e kept, as will your files

so what i haveto re install xp?

First and formost, have a butchers at the following page > http://windowsxp.mvps.org/repairwmi.htm

failing that, if you have your xp cd, you could try using the sfc /scannow command. Just do the following;

start > run > cmd

type "sfc /scannow" and hit enter. it will now scan you computer for corrupt files and replace them of the disk.

If the above doesnt work, then try a windows repair. Failing that. reinstall.

net stop winmgmt

* Using Windows Explorer, navigate to %systemroot%\system32\wbem directory and delete the Repository directory. By default, the repository folder is located in the C:\Windows\system32\wbem directory.

* Switch to Command Prompt window, and type:

net start winmgmt

Now that sucks, that's close to what I suggested, just didn't know what to delete (it's always better to know what to delete rather than to guess ;)).

yea but what do you do when your os cd is a miltiple boot cd with 5 os's on it?

:rotfl:

any ideas? that scan/repair thing doesnt have the brains to find my exact os on the cd:rolleyes:

anyone know how to extract the xp pro file off the cd and put it onto another cd?

ok now i really need help lol

i cannot remember the shortcut to get there. but you can type "msconfig" in the run diaglog box. then you should see the launch system restore button.
