LAN file sharing

The windows file sharing on my other PC is fubar and im about to reformat so i want to send all my important stuff to it. My other option is to do it over MSN but that is slow as hell. Is there any app / way that i can send at as close to full speed (ethernet) without windows file sharing? ie a direct link to the other pc through the router

If you're on the same lan msn file sending will be very fast. Although if you create a C share on the second pc by opening up computer management, going to shared folders and setting one up you just go to \\ip of machine\name of share and move the stuff over .

well its obviously not in this case otherwise i wouldnt have said it. what youre saying just looks like a complicated way of doing what doesnt work. neither machine will detect eachother in windows and if i try connect manually it tells me it cant do it (in more words lol) ill give it a shot anyway, thanks

Plug your hdd in the downstaris pc, transfer, burn to dvd.

probably but i have no experience with it and i cant really be arsed to set it up lol

have you made sure the computers "work group" names are exactly the same?

and are you using the windows lan setup thing?

yup and you will have to be more specific than 'lan setup thingy' lol

the windows setup wizard...u haveto run it on both pc's

The network setup doesn't need to be run on both pcs as long as you setup the second pc properly.

Ok, go on the first pc, open up cmd.exe and to ipconfig /all, then go on the seco nd pc and do the same. Post both the results on here.
