Title says it assuming price is identical which drive is better?

Kingston HyperX 3k 240gb vs Samsung 840 250gb (NON PRO)?

Going on a z77 Sabertooth

If you are in need of space then a 250gb will serve better, if not then 128gb is perfectly fine. Mainly the only difference is the write speed of the non-pro and that it uses TLC memory. TLC will degrade faster and therefore in about 6-8yrs the 250gb model will need replacing. Time varies depending on how much writing you do.

The pro's are where it's at with the 840's if you're consider the standard 840 price bracket, if you can, look at an 830 pro instead. (at least that's the way I've understood it)

Personally, stick with the 840 pro.

running 2 Hyper X's 240Gbers in raid 0 for about 6 months now and they still be running great.

Get an 830 if you can still get your hands on one - insanely good SSD. I got mine for 163,96€ (256GB). If you can't get your hands on one, go with the 840 Pro.

Samsung any day...
The HyperXs are old now, and still on Sandforce.

The Samsung will be far more reliable

The Kingston HyperX 120GB SSD upgrade kit is a very attractive bundle. Its high-end performance, visual appeal, and matching accessories, make the HyperX stand out. Gamers and performance enthusiasts should be extremely happy with the HyperX SSD upgrade kit. I am using kingston hyperx and so far so good, havn't faced problems so far. Kingston's HyperX SSDs combine the latest SandForce controller technology with premium NAND Flash, reducing load times while increasing performance and endurance. They provide high-speed SATA Rev. 3.0 (6Gb/s) transfer speeds for larger bandwidth, which power users require for advanced gaming, multitasking and multimedia gaming power.

Looks of an SSD should not matter since the only time you are going to see it is when you open the box, install it and take it out of your case.
Samsung have the best SSDs at the moment, all reviews I have read, and i've read a few, all rate them as the best SSDs.

Whichever one you get you will be happy with, but because of Kingston use Sandforce, I personally wouldn't bother with them and would go for the Samsung.

Plus Samsung are doing cashback on their 840 SSDs at the moment so you get a 5yr warranty, a non sandforce controller and money back.
