Kid cuts off "overclocking chip" on a GTX280

Molotov

Just now, on another forum i frequent, something epic happened.

Well my dad knows this guy who works for nvidia or something, and my dad said i wanted a new graphics cad for xmas, the gyuy told him to get a geforce gtx 280 as it was the best. I didn''t want a ati as they suck balls lol :p

Well i like to have the best and i heard that overclocking is the way to go, but my dad said that these new gf cards don't let you overclock without disabling the overclocking protection chip. he told me that the easiest way to do it was to cut off the part of the connector that cotrols the chip and then you can overclock it to the max :p. He said that he was 99% sure it was the small connector on the left of the card that you needed to cut off, so i got my exacto knife and very carefully cut off the piece. He phoned his friend (the one who works at nvidia) and he told him to activate the overclocking feature in the BOIS. So i plugged in the card and turned the pc on. but nothing came on the screen and the card made a really loud beeping noise. Dad says you just need to reset the card so it works again, does anyone know how to do this?

Thank you :D:D:D:D

Aaaand further down the page, after us asking him for pics:

Aww snap he changed the post. Yeah it was a troll, you could tell by the reflection of the part he cut off in the cards cooler :D

I'd want to know where he lived to cuddle the kid with condolences and point and laugh at the dad.

But its christmas so its probably a hoax

Nearly as bad as the guy trimming the 7800GTX to fit an AGP slot...

I aint laughing too hard cos I did once trim the instep of a laptop ddr1 dimm cos I didnt know the slot was for ddr2 dimms >.< To my defense, the 2 are almost the same cept the grove is slightly moved. AND it worked in something else after the trim cos I wasnt stoopid enough to clip through active pcb.

As to the gtx, the dad should eat that for being a foo.

lmao

it was photoshopped!! look at the reflection!

Great spottage!

amateurs :nono:

what i would love 2 see is the guys face where he got that card from when he takes it back 2 the shop or where ever he got it from.:D

Even if this wasn't a real situation, I don't see why everyone is blaming the kid. By his grammar, I'm guessing he's not older than 13, and 'kids' at that age are quite gullible. Especially if they hear the information from their elders. The kids' dad is completely in fault in this fake situation, and the kid shouldn't be blamed one bit.

My two cents. :)
