Keyboard

Another keyboard thread, and proberlly a question that has been asked a million times, but ill ask

does anyone know of a keyboard which has the following features

1. Mechanical: (prefer cherry-black to red, but its not a deal breaker)
2. Macro keys: Need a min of 5
3: Needs a display: (1 line is fine, but it needs to have a clock basiclly)
4: Media controls: (at least the default 4 (play-stop-back-forwards), but would also prefer an analog volume control)
5: Wrist rest: (use a CMStorm-rapid 10-keyless at work, and it would be better with writst-rest)

The display really is the main thing I cant seem to find with any mechanical keyboard, which drives me insane, especially when I see new boards coming out that have 4/5 of the features, and then they miss the mechanical part

thanks

No real mechanical keyboard has a display.

Where are you located?

Have to typed on blacks before?

2. The k90 does but thats not a mechanical keyboard in my eyes. Its a good first attempt from corsair but a keyboard to own.. no. The CM Storm trigger has a macro bank of 5. It is completely mechanical unlike the k90. It has FN based media keys. Im not sure what switch it uses it might be RED right now, but the plan from CM was to have the main 4 switches available.

Isnt it only Logitech's G-series which has a true display? All the series is missing is the mechanical keys, everything else checks. I enjoyed my G15 for many years, isnt it all about just getting used to something new? ;)

Yeh, I would say that mech > screen though. I mean how many times do you use that screen?

You made me think though, why not get the g13 game pad with the screen and then a mechanical keyboard?

All about taste. Personally I think pressing on mech. keys is horrible, and I dont believe its an advantage to someone who uses a regular keyboard. :p
If you can get used to a non-mech. keyboard you can play just as well with it, as someone who uses a mech. keyboard.

It's like those people who buy "gaming glasses" (with the yellowish tint) which gives a relaxing tone whereas they believe they will do better. I do agree the tone makes it much more relaxing when watching a screen with high brightness, but its not gonna improve your gaming. Also, the free software F.lux delivers the same result as those glasses, people are just too quick to Google before purchasing I guess, or the professionals gets it sponsored and doesnt give a crap. ^_^

I disagree with this entirely. I have a K90 and it's wonderful. The software is so simple and easy to use, it has 3 banks of 18 macros, it has MX red keys which are great for typing and awesome for gaming too. The backlighting looks amazing and the build quality is top notch. And it IS a mechanical keyboard, it has MX red keys

razer have got a keyboard which has the described needs but it razer and we all know what that means in adition it cheesily star wars branded

Also forgot to add that Aria recently got those new Ducky mechanical keyboards in, including two limited editions, although im not entirely sure what exactly you are paying £20 extra for, other than it being a US layout but which isnt exactly something you'd wanna pay extra for assuming you're from UK. s:
Maybe someone else can shed some light on it.

Duckys are all US layout bud, the more expensive ones are the special tkless. Which I believe have memory for backlight profiles like the 9008S2.

Where: UK

Used a black before: CMStorm - Rapid 10key-less is a black which i use at work

I havent seen a razor that meets all the needs, the Deathstalker is still a poly-dome by looks of things,

and yeah the k90 not being a totally mechanical has put me off that one

looked at meka-gunit looks awesome, but its missing the display, and the analog volume controls

i use a G19 at home, and what i want is basiclly it but mechanical, or the deathstalker since that is awesome

+1

I rarely use the non-mechanical keys on my K90 and really, who cares if every single key isn't mechanical? It is a cost saving measure. The back lighting is awesome, the keys are phenomenal and it has excellent build quality.

^This entirely. Plus you don't need all your keys to me mechanical, just the main bulk of them. Who needs their function keys or macro's to be mechanical? Just adds unnecessary cost

Just FYI I did own one.

The macro bank didn't bother me but the esc to f12 did, I would have paid the extra £1 x 22 for the other keys. I was hitting the fkeys in bf3 like I would for the normal switched keys and wouldn't get a key stroke.

I really don't understand why they did it. It had so much potential but for me it was over designed in areas even, just disappointing.

The k90 does look to feature most of the things i want, the only one its really missing is the display

if only the deathstalker was mechanical it would be perfect

I too have the K90, and I dont physically see any issues with the entire board not being mechanical...

For a start, you dont exactly need macros, escape-F12 and the printscreen - delete - pause break - page down square to be mechanical. You only need a mechanical layer so you can press more than X buttons at the same time etc... and you're never gunna need to really press the others at the same time...

However - I do agree with Andrew that it would be nice, considering I've paid nearly £100 for a keyboard for Corsair not to have cut any corners in building it. It is an expensive keyboard to start with, and as it's the first proper keyboard I've owned, it would have been nice for me to think no corners had been cut in production.

But, it doesnt really bother me that they arent mechanical since I rarely even touch the buttons that arent...

It bothers me more that the LEDs behind the keys dont all appear properly - ie - on the mechanical keys, the LEDs shine brighter than on the membrane keys. Probably have to own one to know what I'm talking about

I dont really see it as an issue...
It's because they're membrane keys, the led's have to be at the base of the membrane, rather than right under the key on the mech keys. It's just a shame they arent all mech keys :)
