Yeah man.

You should google:

Clean and press

Squat

Deadlift

Bench press

Chin up

Lunges

They should keep you busy and will get you fighting fit... Really depends what you want to get out of it. Supplement those moves with specific exercises e.g. fly for extra chest definition, tricep ext for tricep (duh) etc.

Get 20 mins of cardio in each session, vary the speed and distance each time.

Change your routine every 6 weeks.

Mix the way you lift too - reps, weight, speed.

If you are starting out then lay your foundations, get a good general solid base, don't overwork your chest and neglect your back or ignore your legs completely...

You could go on for hours.

Get into an activity - rock climbing, kick boxing is really fun, football, whatever and you tend to train for your sport...

Cheers smith.. :) Today i Ran 10 minutes at 11.6 km/h, biceps lifted 5 repsof 10, of 35kg, shoulders 40kg 5 reps of 10, then went on the rowing machine. and a few other general bits and bobs.. did ok for my first session :)

Gym's have never interested me, I would rather go on a long bike ride and enjoy different scenary rather than just the same 4 walls everytime you run on a tread mill.

Everyone to their own though

Rep - one movement of an exercise.

Set - a number of reps of an exercise

Sounds like you did 5 sets of 10 reps? No good for starting out mate. 3 sets of 12 reps on a comfortable weight to get going. PERFECT FORM is what you want.

I go to the gym for extra strength and general well being - helps what i do - as Kemp said - injuries permitting
