JLR's New Build

Hi Everyone,
After doing some research and asking new build advice in the other part of the forum I ordered the parts for my new build yesterday. RAM and Cooler are presents for Christmas from my family so I will have them later in the month. I did set a budget of £400-£450ish give or take a bit more but by the time I have ordered the graphics card Im thinking of thats been pretty much smashed to bits.

Ok my current rig specs are as follows :-

Antec 1200 Case
Asus Maximus II Formula
Q6600 2.4 SLACR
Arctic Freezer 7
BFG GTX280 OC Edition
4GB DDR2 Crucial Ballistix
2x 150GB WD Raptors
1x WD Velociraptor (Mind has gone blank cant remember size)
1x DVD Reader/RW
1x Asus DVD Reader/RW Lightscribe

Ordered parts for new rig :-

MSI Z77 MPower
3570K
Corsair GS700W
CM Storm Trooper Case
CM Storm Trooper Clear Side Window

Upcoming Parts :-

Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz LP 4GB x 2
Be Quiet Dark Rock Advanced
XFX Radeon HD 7950 Double D 900Mhz (Not Confirmed)

The MSI Z77A - G45 was recommended to me and I was literally inches away from buying it but the MPower kept catching my eye :D.

I will be re-using the Case/Optical Drives and Velociraptor for my upcoming build. I already have a OCZ Agility SSD which was purchased (before I joined OC3D) so I will be using that for my Operating System/Other Programs.

Anyway I hope you like the parts list and I will upload pictures as and when I receive the items and get my Project Log underway.

JLR :)

Shame you can't stretch for a new case to go with your new kit. The 1200 isn't the best when it comes to cable management.

sounds like a promising project, looking forward to photos bud

+1, you could pick up a decent new case for not too much and make this build alot nicer

Looks good.

I myself like the Antec 1200 - am using one as my storage server. Great air cooling potential... but, yes, not great for cable management. Just spend some time though and you can make it pretty neat. :)

Thanks both, Yeah I know it has been a pain in the ass in the past when I've been trying to keep cables tidy. It has crossed my mind to buy a new case but I've been unsure as to what case I want. I REALLY like the Cosmos 2 but its HUUUGE.

If anyone can recommend a nice case I might be tempted :D

Very healthy upgrade path: sure the old Q was an epic cpu, but you'll see a big boost with that Ivy. If you're gaming on a small resolution, the GTX might still cut the mustard for you, though :)

Yeah it's a really good CPU the PC runs games no problem there's no lag on BF3 or anything just really fancy an upgrade, it's been a while.

im a huge fan of fractal, the arc midi is a nice mid tower, not too expensive but certainly awesome quality and heaps of customization options
