The Japanese government have banned the sale of second hand PC goods made before 2001.

They say that this is because they believe that these are being used fro Terrorism.

I think its because the Japanese componenet manufacturers want to sell lost more new shiny goods

Madness!

From The Inq

It's odd considering their stance on motor vehicles, they usually only keep them for a short period of time until the rego gets too dear. This in turn provides a market for Japanese import motors...it's a pity they don't pass them on to 3rd world countries for use in schools for the underprivileged

How the hell do you use an old pc part for terrorism?

"Die infidel!" *Starts poking tied up guy with a stick of ram*

Well this is not really new. I have been living in Japan for more than 6 years and I remember a few years ago that a north Korean defector revealed that they bought some chipset for their guidance system in Akihabara.

As for the economic reason I really doubt it is meant to boost the sales of new product. Regardless of any politics, Japanese are pretty eagger to buy new stuff rather than second hand and not only for PCs.

Anyway whatever law is passed, it will surely not stop the sales of older PCs in Akihabara for example, if you know where to look at, you can already find many stuffs that are illegal on sale there....

Well tbh the reason stated will not stop terr to buy the stuff from other countrys as we are not talking about small gangs here, if US cant stop them operating with all the high tech i dont think banning second hand goods will.

All seems a bit silly, nearly all electrical gadgets can be made use if and they will find a way if they really try. PCBs are in almost everything nowadays.

Just wish they would blow themselves up in the process

Meh pointless, terrorists get the money from the US Gvt. So they should ban the US tbh :p.

Episode X : The Stupid Idiot Strikes Back

You say this in jest, but are you really stupid? This ban from our asian ethno-centric brethren is clearly a cheap attempt at driving up sales. I don't buy many, if any, used pc parts for obvious reasons, but in a country like Japan I can see why this is commonplace. They get new shiny replacements quarterly so the early adopters would be selling old parts quickly. However any government that places such a ban should be immediately removed. This is like forcing American's to drive cars under 10 years old. That would be fine if new cars were as big as old cars, as affordable to buy and as easy to repair. But beyond the point, this is a type of communism at work.

That's my rant for this post, now for why Phnom is an idiot. The US funds terrorists. Not really, we fund militia groups that are supposed to fight for freedom for their people. These groups who lied about their intentions became elements of the terrorist groups we know today. This, in my opinion, is an excercise in futility, but it is the Clinton administration's, oh did you forget that it was Clinton's administration, way of doing their good in the middle east. Let's throw some dollars and a few hours of training at the religious extremists and let them have their way. I personally hate Islamic extremists nearly as much as I can't stand bible-toting born again christians or mormons. At least they don't shoot me. Althought the straight-edge misguided mormon youths do have a tendency to attack pregnant women with illegitimate babies and carve insults into their flesh. You see why religion is scary if it controls all aspects of your being? But you, dumb comment, beyond dumb, shame. Ban the US, that is like banning money. Sure it would hurt us... but then again American PC manufacturing would quickly rise in efficiency to the point where cost is almost as low as it was. Lowered transport cost(no overseas shipments) would cut that cost and tariff tax, and companies would sell in bulk which is how they lower costs anyway... 15 dollar markup on 1000 cards beats 100 dollars on 100 cards. In reality, the initial ad campaign in the States was correct, drugs fund terrorism. And Saddam offered money to families of terrorists who commited suicidal acts of terror. The measley amount we gave to local arab militias is nothing compared to the money given to them by drug taking idiots like you.

Other businesses in the private sector should be looked into first before blaming the government for their contributions to groups. We fund countless futile efforts around the world. That was just one of them. What about the oil companies like Echo Bay who paid, what I presume to be the product of extortion, millions to known terrorist organizations like Abu Sayyaf for mob-like protection of their oil mining facilities. The US government does very well considering the countless idiots from the left and blind citizens who don't realize the reality of the situation and the effects of what they do begging them to do the cowardly thing and attempt diplomacy with these primitive warrish people. I don't mean this as a personal attack. But stupid statements with such implications demand response.

Ban America... Phnom-inal idiot.

From a commonsense point of view, inflammatory remarks like this (even if said in jest) are best left unsaid. However, due to an individuals right to the freedom of speech, these statements can be made however true/ false they may be. Just be mindful that sentiments such as these, are likely to go pear shaped very quickly, and really don't have any place here. Better off keeping these opinions to yourself :)

I say it in jest. Not because I'm an idiot. Here are some other issues I'd like you to clear up. The US funded the IRA against the British, the US funded Saddam to fight the Iranians, the US funded the mujahideen and Taliban (and Bin Laden) against the Soviets, the money of which is still being used to fund Al Qaeda, and the Stinger missiles given to them are still being brought back by the US at £1M a piece. They also created terrorist training camps in places like Iran, Afganhistan and other places in the 1980s. Company funded terrorists like the Abu Sayyaf Goldmine protection are one thing, the Government being another.
