Ivy Bridge max tolerable temps?

Regardless of whether you are using air or water cooling, what would be the max temps you would tolerate to avoid damage to the cpu?

What temps cause you to hit the panic button and shut her down?

As we all know IB is less heat tolerant than its older Sandy Bridge sibling. As our faithful Guvnor said in one of his reviews, (rephrased) it 'poops the bed and goes north' with a smidgen of too many volts.

So, what would the experts consider the danger zone for IB temps?

i concour.. 80° for a steady temperature is redline. for a bonzai run or validation
can be higher for a reduced amount of time.
but for damage, i hadn't hit that threshold, yet. my lil retail 2550k has had some
real punishment and hadn't noticed any deterioration.

I'm normally a little more lenient with temps. I'll let mine go to about 85/90 before bringing down the clocks.
I rarely actually do anything stressful on my CPU though, so if it is at that temperature, it won't normally be for long.

Probably around 80 degrees is a good cut off though.

I say that the mid 80s is the highest to go for IBT, because that's the most heat that's going to be produced.

To compare, my 3770K through IBT reaches around 80*C whereas Folding 24/7 never breaches 70*C.

Thanks guys. I found this to be very helpful. I dont own IB yet but I will next week :D wewt!!

Josh, I started the folding@home thing but it uses GPU. What folding are you doing that utilises cpu?
