Ivy bridge hits 7ghz!

Yup seen it a few days ago. I think we all know that we're not going to achieve that with air/water cooling

errrrrr

and this matters because?

I believe it's good to see the voltage differences between previous generations of CPU to show the change in overclocking since the previous release.

It's like the recently leaked CPU-Z screenshot - showing 4GHz on 1.1v. That's immense. Seeing the voltage vs. Frequency is important. In my opinion anyway.

4.4@1.1v sounds good,BUT using 1.8v on these means nothing(hell its on a par with the volts to mhz that P4's did,and this is supposed to be progress?

Maybe I was expecting too much from Ivy.I dunno

agreed, no speak of stability, functional usages just a number.

i hope IB is as open as they are portraying.

seems SB has settled in the 4.9-4.5 OC for stability and longevity.

does IB feel that the 5.5-6.0 give the same return for stability.

no comments have come out yet from the camp.

This is great, but I don't think we'll see any stable 6GHz on this chip like most have hoped for. It would be nice though. :/ I'm okay with the 5.0GHz range. But who knows only time will tell.xD

I wish it was launched already, I am very curious to see what IB is made out of. So far the overclocks look promising.

They were using dry ice

this will never be a 24/7 stable overclock, thats not what they are trying to achieve out of it. It was purely Lets see the highest speed it will boot at type run

Exactly what Mr.Strawberry said and also to take the crown from AMD

Anybody know what the highest SandyBridge Overclock was?not SB-E but SB?

well see that must be quiet and iumprovment if it went up almost 1ghz past its previous Gen. meaning these SHOULD be monster daily overclockers to

. now im going to day dream about an sr3 with two IVY bridge E 10 cores ha

Unfortunately it didn't take the crown from AMD though. AMD FX record is over 8GHz.

Saying that...AMDs clock speeds don't really speak for anything. Bulldozer = Shocking.

Thanks for the clarification I remember hearing AMD's record was sub 7GHz I keep hearing 6.7 in my head

Well you have to take into consideration cooling, dry ice does not equal liquid helium. On liquid helium IB might be able to beat out bulldozer even in frequency.
