It looks like it's running but nothing's happening

Round at my mates today cus he wanted me to take a look at his storage server because he said all he was getting was a blank screen.

It was off when I got there so I turned it on and all the fans started spinning but there was no beep to signal that it had started and nothing was coming on screen.

Cleared the CMOS but still nothing.

Scratching my head and glutching at straws we threw in a diffrent graphics card but still nothing. No surprise.

Not sure what motherboard it is but it looked like a AM2/2+ mobo and I have a compatable CPU kicking around so I'm going to take that round and try that tommorrow but was wondering if you guys had any other ideas?

Cheers in advance.

is the ram pushed in or got dust on the pins that happened to me PC started but nothing on screen cleaned then with a rubber and it worked.

Sounds like it could be the motherboard, if the fans are spinning it's getting some power but if there is no beep or error beeps then it sounds like the mobo isn't posting. Could be a cold boot issue or maybe the 24pin or CPU power pin not plugged in properly.

turned out my mobo was not detecting memory AND the GPU failed. booted using another board and onboard graphics and it was fine, so the RAMis working.

board RMA's

GPU RMA'd

Thanks for all the imput guys.

I'll double check the RAM first and also try a diffrent PSU and go from there.

I'll be honest and admit to not knowing exactly what posting is other then what a motherboard does first when you start it, but there are no bleeps so I guess it's not doing it

Forgot to say that it's onboard graphics but really hoping it's not the mobo as we don't really want to reinstall everything again

Thanks again guys.

POST is Power ON Self Test. when you switch on your motherboard it checks the CPU, RAM and GPU if there is something wrong with either you usually get a error code like two beep followed by one for example. The one beep you get when your PC boots means the is POST successful.

I think thats it anyway, but if you aren't even getting a error code then it sounds like it's a problem with the motherboard I could be wrong though.
