Is this Nvidia's plan for their RTX 3090 Ti/Super? Thoughts on GDDR6X

I wouldn't count AMD as being out of the race yet. They RDNA 2 promises big gains, and 5000 series Navi was intentionally made to be small.

With the Xbox Series X seemingly delivering RTX 2080 Super performance (given already known Gears 5 settings/performance estimations from developers), I can see AMD definitely making something that can at least trade blows with the 3080. AMD can definitely do better than an Xbox Series X.

The question, in my mind, is if AMD can do better than that. Beyond that, they need an answer to DLSS. Without a competitor to DLSS, Nvidia has a key software win.

I believe AMD has a solution called AMD image sharpening, TechSpot showed off the implementation last year for Metro Exodus. From what I recall it was superior to dlss 1.0 but inferior to dlss 2.0.

I'm guessing the same at the current one but released next summer or September. Depends on if they need to or not. Basically, if AMD is competitive on the high-end.

They will have 22 months on 7nm gpu node since Radeon V II at the time of launch ( Feb 2019 till this holiday season ). They have no choice but to be competitive from pressure from all sides including their own next gen consoles if they aren't powerful enough and Intel's Raga take at the gpu market!

I just feel sorry for anyone who ordered the new Ampere cards from the get go, as I'm pretty sure Nvidia is going to screw them over, with better card offerings.

well im going to be getting one from day 1. Even though preorders are not possible. Im happy either way though as I get a good discount. But my days of always having the best are gone. If I get the 3090 and they release the super variant.. it won't phase me as much as it used to. The 3090 is still going to be insanely futureproof.

I'm still pondering to maintain my 7700k or jump ship to a new AMD.

Its almost a guarantee when sales slow down, nvidia will release a beefier series of cards. They have done it since the 700series days. I think actually it was the 700 series where they started doing this shady stuff with the release of the 780ti

"AMD I.S" is decent but it's no DLSS, Even less so on a technical level, You can achieve the same thing with a sharpening filter using SweetFX or Reshade, Ok "AMD I.S" is adaptive but compared to DLSS it's not very impressive and I say this as a 5700XT owner, AMD need a real solution to image upscaling and hopefully they'll end up integrating Microsoft's ML image upscaling which is just DLSS basically.

JayzTwoCents did a video recently showing a 3800XT and 10900K both being VERY close to eachother in terms of gaming performance, Sometimes on par on a 2080 Ti but even with both being the latest from both team red and team blue there were still bottlenecks going on caused by both CPU's, I expect this to be even greater once Ampere officially launches so I think it's time to retire the 7700K ^_^

If you do jump to AMD for your CPU just wait till the 4000 series launches at the end of the year as I think these are going to be some really nice chips

AMD need to compete in the 3070 and 3080 spaces, 3090 is for people with a lot of disposable income, But they need to at lower prices than the 3070 and 3080 and I say lower prices as Nvidia do have a hell of a lot of software integration with many many companies as well as a plethora of games, Many of which offer some really nifty options, Experiences etc...

AMD need to offer serious value to pull people away from a potential Nvidia purchase.

Exactly, Big Navi is going to have to seriously impress me, I have a chance at getting a 3090 next April'ish but that's still 7 months away, Between now and then I'd like a GPU upgrade, The 5700XT is decent but I need more GPU grunt and AMD's constant unstable crashing drivers is just getting annoying.

Nvidia dont have to push anything. These features are so good now, that Developers will be contacting Nvidia to get it added to their products.

I'm more excited about new monitors coming tbh. Can't wait to move on from a TN 144hz panel.

AMD could win if they could make a GPU that rivals Nvidia's performance at 4K/8K with DLSS without having to resort to a DLSS competitor. I doubt that we would see AMD bring that much of a leap to the table though. Although, if AMD can get some sort of Multi-Chip Module happening with GPUs like they do with Zen 2 then they could make an absolute beast of a GPU without having to worry about massive dies boosting up the cost of each graphics card. Imagine 8 Xbox Series X GPUs on a single card with a ultra high speed interface between them - could Nvidia compete with something that could push 96 teraflops of compute performance? opcorn:

I would preferr to wait for a possible 3090ti then be a sucker and buy a 3090 now and feel like I did with the 780 when it launched...

*Edit* I am still rocking a 2700x and 2080ti. I am currently waiting to upgrade the cpu to a ryzen 4000 series - after that then I would wait for a possible 3090ti/Super.

Me too. I really would love to finally see 1440p/IPS/144Hz-type panels no longer being £500+. They have dropped in price since they first came to market, and there are a few good budget options in some markets, but I feel like they should have dropped more by now in all markets.
