Is this decent?

If it does what it says, it should be very good.

Shouldn`t be as good a picture as a smaller screen that also does 1920x1080, but how they iron out that transformation will make or break it. It`ll either be blocky or washy, or something unique.

Viewed @ 8' or more away tho, it`ll look good. Check it`s viewing angle for how u`r going to situate it in the room.

My old man spent £1k on a 32" lcd and i thought the pic quality was poor...

For a 42" you think a plasma is the way forward?

i have the 37" and its great,do you really need 42"?

37" is pretty big and vs the 42" you 'should' get a better picture because it wont have to be stretched across more screen.

and i would go with lcd over plasma.

either way i am sure whatever one of the regza x series you go for you probly wont be dissapointed :)

Raging.

Not so sure about that. (the plasma thing, not a comment on the previous post)

When I read up on things I got the impression that plasma was the `old` way to do things and LCD tech was doing the catching up, exceding in some cases.

A purchase on a scale of this, I read a load of review articles (like the OC3D - but for TVs) and sounded people out after I`d whittled it down to a handful of models. Toshiba seemed to have the better tech per buck, but Samsung undercut them whilst maintaining a second spot. Sony was just silly money for the same sort of thing.

Of course, now I`ve done the reading, I don`t have the linkage at hand >.<

Like I said re the price, thats not the issue - I can get certain models for dirt cheap so I guess I'll get the list of models available...

As for the size, it's for the main lounge in my house man, of course I need 42"! I was thinking about 50" but seeing a couple in person they are too big.

Even with pricing not being an issue, I`d be all-over either of these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-LE4...?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1191251156&sr=1-39

or if I did feel a bit of a pinch:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-LE4...852749-0214867?ie=UTF8&qid=1191251156&sr=1-39

But u have to bear in mind I have a little bias from experience.

Tbh, any 1 of about 20 tvs from the 40-42" range from 2 to 3 manufs, u will be very happy with, even with little niggles people may point out to u. Afaik every set has atleast 1 thing that a reviewer won`t like about them - don`t let these things put u off too much, take them in context as to what u want at the end of the day.

It`s a job of comparison tbf. I found that stores that u could walk into and look around always seemed to be a model or so behind what u can get on the net.

I can get the 40" one, less than half that price

Might just go with that or the Regza X then...

Repped for your input Rast :)

The 42" Regza has a GREAT picture, I know someone who has one. Really nice looking display. Dell doesn't seem to have the price listed, but under 1000 is pretty nice. I remember when it was over $4000 for a 1080p display over 40", and now you can get nice ones for ~$1800. And that was only two years ago. Such is the nature of the consumer electronics market.

LCD > Plamsa TBH. LCD has better res, picture quality, viewing angel ect ect. I can get a 47" Samsung LCD 1080p with 3HDMI, 2 Component, DVI, and 2 S-Video/Composite for 1200 bucks US. Thats pretty cheap and the size is just perfect for just about anything. ITs all about res and pictures quality really. And you cant forget about contrast ratio either. I stick around 10-15k/1.

When your in a lounge or living room viewing angel is a must. You dont want the people that are sorta looking at it kinda sideways to have a darker view. Thats why i hate projection TVs. You have to be dead center on them to see them right and they suck for gaming. Usualy you see most TVs have 170 or 180 degree viewing angels and thats pretty normal and decent. Take nothing less.
