Is it worth getting another Vapor-X 4890?

Can't decide whether it's worth getting another card to match the one I've got for Crossfire. Planning on getting a 24" after christmas so want to get some extra power to make the most of it. It's either get another 4890 or save up and get a 5870 or 5890 X2 when they come out.

Save up imho.

I can't really recommend anyone a previous gen. card since it is in the previous gen. :p

What everyone else below me said. VV

Well I sold my 4890 on Ebay for decent money £120 and put in an extra 180 for a 5870, will be worth it in the longrun for the dx11 and Crossfire in the future...

Just gotta try to find a 5870 first though. :)

2x 4890 will game about the same as a 5870 but you wont have the DX11 extras.

the X2 card is the 5970 btw, and they are looking to be $599 so by the time they make the shops here you will be looking at £450+ no doubt so its a big price gap from a 4890.....

Thats the one! :) You've convinced me the new generation card would be the better option. A 5970 would probably be a bit overkill for the rest of my current spec anyway to be honest. But like biscuit said, just got to find somewhere that has some 5870s in stock. Though by the time I can afford one I'm sure there'll be many around...

Do u know what's absolutely disgusting about the UK ?

They are indeed selling for $599. @ Novatech they're selling for £574.

That is something me and Pyr0 couldnt work out the other night, its not fair we dont get the same prices linked to the exchange rate imho. This is the type of thing I wish the EU would actualy pic up on :(

Does beg the question why the one is higher than the other. Cos I have no doubt it'll settle to £450-£475 soon enough.

Thing is, it's also 560 euros aint it ?

So the UK feel +£100, atleast, is ok ?

Vote with your feet, as it were, and don't buy them until the prices are forced to drop. There will always be slightly extra costs getting it to the UK with the additional transport costs over the channel, though of course that depends where they're distributed from, don't know where companies such as Sapphire, XFX, Asus etc. base themselves. If everyone stopped leaping for the new flash gear when it came out cause it was priced higher than the rest of the world I'm sure they'd soon get the message.

$599 doesn't include the local tax though does it, when you add that in and compare it to the UK prices, there isn't alot of difference.

I agree with the w8ing, if u can.

I personally don't agree with the price differences at-all, and don't offer any excuses to them myself as in europe the price is comparable to the US. The UK is meant to be in europe. And it certainly doesn't cost over £100 an-item to get them in either via europe or otherwize.

The UK prices for everything are always based on "how much can we get away with charging". Very little to nothing at all to do with logistics or cost-to-manufacturer.

Who dares to bet it's the EU receiving an actual part of the difference?
