Is it better to have high speed or low timmings

Windows and games tend to prefer speed up to 1600/1866, after that, speed doesnt make a difference and so timings are better

so would it be better to buy high speed memory for the headroom to lower the timmings without raising the voltage to high

not really. better to save money and spend it on something that actually makes a difference.

get 1600mhz mushkin blackline, timings 9-9-9-24 for like 45 quid. Thats the most you really need, any higher frequency or timings makes no difference in gaming or general use

I'm currently running mushkin blackline 2133 down to 1866 9-9-9-24 1t... I do some overclocking and trying to get a grasp on the cpu + memory effects. I've done some gaming but getting bored of it. Just started folding this morning

thanks for the respond

Run 3d mark with both and see what happens.

What cooling are you using? and what volts on the cpu?

This thread may digress quickly :)

using a single loop 360 rad and 240 rad push pull with occool pump xspc water block on the cpu and water blocks on the two hd6990 in crossfire

I wouldn't say it was way too high, we're talking Sandy here, but it is a little much.
That being said, it is underwater, so he may be able to get away with the extra vcore.
He'll soon know if the chip starts to degrade, by the lovely shade of blue on his monitors :(

she gets unstable at 1.400 volts my temps are in the very low 70's my old 2600k was just crap so i got the 2700k does a lot better

I guess I'm unlucky in the cpu lottery but whos not I've tried a lot of different combination gigabyte, asus, gskill, mushkin I do get those nice big blue screens from time to time last one i got was 7e

I was lucky to sell my old system that was a 1366 i7 950 worked great for this sandy bridge set up saved a lot of money for this one

You could get far lower timings on DDR and DDR2 - you sure it wasnt one of them?

If not, then some of the seriously good RAM can probably run at that
