not really. better to save money and spend it on something that actually makes a difference.
get 1600mhz mushkin blackline, timings 9-9-9-24 for like 45 quid. Thats the most you really need, any higher frequency or timings makes no difference in gaming or general use
I'm currently running mushkin blackline 2133 down to 1866 9-9-9-24 1t... I do some overclocking and trying to get a grasp on the cpu + memory effects. I've done some gaming but getting bored of it. Just started folding this morning
I wouldn't say it was way too high, we're talking Sandy here, but it is a little much.
That being said, it is underwater, so he may be able to get away with the extra vcore.
He'll soon know if the chip starts to degrade, by the lovely shade of blue on his monitors
I guess I'm unlucky in the cpu lottery but whos not I've tried a lot of different combination gigabyte, asus, gskill, mushkin I do get those nice big blue screens from time to time last one i got was 7e
