Hi
amd driver has received much criticism earlyer, are they still "bad" or are they improved so they are as good as nvidia drivers???

They are alot better than they used to be. I've never had any problems with them really. Stick to the non beta drivers if you're concerned about crashes etc and you should be fine :)

i've recently moved from dual nvidia 460s to a amd hd 7950. since changing i have had no issues, even with beta drivers.
i think i'd actually say i've had less issues.
amd seem to have focused more on drivers now especially since 12.11

They have never been "bad" they have had problems with drivers but nothing major.

All this runt frame issues isn't as big as a problem as people make it out to be either, cards still run great with the latest and previous drivers.

I dunno about that. This looks really bad to me on the old driver, I'd actually say this is unplayable for me, compared to the new driver it's like night and day.

This does only affect the cards when used in Crossfire though so it's nothing to be concerned about unless you have a 7990 or dual cards.

Been using the betas as soon as they are released, never had an issue, stable and fast. Never tried crossfire, and probably never will, but with a single card the drivers are good, and remember, I am talking about the beta versions, so the official releases should be that much more stable.

The way I see it, before it was made aware this issue existed people were non the wiser, and as far as everyone knew there was no problem.

Don't get me wrong, it is an issue that needs fixing (which it is) but it's not something that prevents you from playing games or that is even that noticeable whilst playing them.

People have made it sound a lot worse than it is, AMD have been working hard to fix it though.

I think that is probably due to it only affecting the HD 7xxx series and that it only happens when you run in Crossfire. The amount of people it affects is incredibly tiny. Probably under 10,000. I never knew about the issue before it was publicised as I don't own a HD 7xxx card, let alone two and I'm sure it's the same for most of us here.

To be honest, just looking at the videos, I can tell that would be noticeable straight away. I would totally not be able to live with what I showed in that YouTube video. It looks terrible. I'm glad AMD are able to fix it in the drivers.

Based on that AMD has a driver in testing that corrects the problem I would not warn people away from the cards. It's obviously not a big deal any more and there is no reason not to recommend AMD cards for Crossfire use anymore.

I continually complained from the minute I put two 5770s in my PC until the minute I pulled them out and replaced them with a GTX 470.

Honestly, as Grassman once said "If you don't notice it you're either stupid or blind" or something like that.

Oddly though it seems that many don't seem to notice it or simply don't care but micro stutter drove me absolutely crazy.

AMD drivers are the only thing that stopped me going for a 2nd 6850, the microstutter I witnessed on a friends PC was horrendous.
Single GPU, they're absolutely great, never a problem with em' :)

Hopefully 8xxx will be hardware based rendering rather then software = problem solved.

That would be great, but Ryan Shrout has spoken with AMD about the frame time variance issue and amd said it is going to take a while untill they implement this into hardware.Unfortunately it is for sure not going to be in the 8k series.

But they are working on the drivers. With the Prototype 2 driver they sent out to Ryan the frame times are much more even. Still not as good as nvidea but noticeably better.

Look at this video

THAT is some seriously lame woot doot music.

The fact that you have an advertisement on that youtube video makes the whole project suspect in my opinion.

hi
is the "bad experience" with amd gpu/driver can that be the system config (cpu/gpu/chipset) if there is less problems with all amd system than other system combinations ....or does it not matter.
sorry for the noob questions but i am a noob so

Rooker thanks great info....hope amd get the worst frame time variance issue fix in the drivers

the new drivers are okay, but only if you don't care about older games.
bfbc2 ran like crap, quake ran like crap and cod4 ran like crap as well. tomb raider and far cry 3 ran just fine.

You have an advertisement on Youtube when you hit so many views. Unless you pay Youtube have full control over your videos. It happened to me with a Razer video I did.

This whole "project" is no such thing. It's scientific fact that can't be denied.

If it was just PCPER I would do what I have and that is to look for other instances of it being used.

Quick search on Google for FCAT brings many results, and, information that confirms exactly what the problem is.

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...0843-amd-hd-7990-review-malta-arrives-13.html

There you go, FCAT removing runt and dropped frames. Different site, same exact result.
