In case people don't know how to use IRC and don't know what it is, I'll make a little guide.
Okey so IRC (
Internet Relay Chat) service is a protocol that allows people to chat with each other via channels
(#oc3d) on different servers (
Quakenet is one of them). If you want to use IRC you need an application to run the service. Since I'm using mIRC that's what I'll show you how to get started with.
mIRC is an application created to use IRC, it's far from the only one out there and many websites also connects to IRC. But it is one of the best and most user friendly if you ask me.
Step 1:
You need to download
mIRC for free.
Step 2:
You need to install the program. That's pretty straight forward, just install it like any other application.
Step 3:
Once you launch it you have to select Quakenet as the server.
Under the Quakenet folder mark the Random server and press the select button.
Step 4:
You need to select a Nickname (this is what other users will see you as). And an
alternative in case someone is already logged in as your first choice. Name and Email
are optional, I personally don't write it down.
Now just press connect!
Step 5:
Once you have pressed connect you will get a message saying that you got a 30 day trail and you need to register etc. But you don't have to do that. When the 30 days are over it will just keep asking you to register but you can still connect by pressing continue when you get the message.
Step 6:
Now you are ready to join a channel.
Press the heart shape which I have circled and you get up the mIRC Favorites window. Here you simply write down the names of the channels you wish to join, starting with # (
#example). You can also add channels to your favorite list and check a box for autojoin every time you connect to IRC.
If you want to join the channel we are trying to start write #oc3d and press Join, then you get into our chat room =) Once you got the hang of it you can use commands instead of the interface. /join #example makes you join channels much faster.
Step 7:
Now you can chat and have fun!
Hopefully someone will answer you
Sorry for fast and maybe not so easy guide to understand
But this was really done on the fly. Hope to see more people chatting up the room soon
