iPod Classic 1st gen vs. 6th gen?

Hi guys, now don't hate me for posting Apple stuff, the one thing I think they can make are iPods, nothing else.

With that out of the way, I've been using my iPod Classic 1st gen for sooo long now and I want to get something better, all that matters to me is the audio quality, battery life and files. (I'd love to get something that supports FLAC, but that rules out iPods, which is not a problem if you got a suggestion within the same price range.)

Another thing, is there any difference between iPod Classic and just plain iPod? I was checking one site and it confused me. Anyway, my question is, is there a big audio quality difference from the 1st gen to the later gens classics? And perhaps you have a good suggestion to give me, perhaps something that supports FLAC? Thanks! :)

Tbh, I'd only buy an ipod - regardless of it not supporting something like FLAC.

My Classic 6th gen has lasted about 5 years now. Easy to replace parts for if need be. I've cracked the screen in mine and it was a 20 minute, £11 repair. Still got the original battery in, battery life hasn't even seemed to degrade over the years, and so still lasts upwards of 20 hours.

I personally wouldn't buy anything else.
Not sure if you'll see much difference in audio quality however between that and what you have - but you won't find better elsewhere either tbh. Get a classic if you really feel the need to upgrade.

Hmmm, if the audio quality won't be much better I definitely will not get another, newer one. But thanks for the input. I did a little research and I'm very interested in the Cowon X9, it has superior audio quality and supports FLAC, just what I want. But I'll keep looking around for other brands.

I had a Cowon mAudio back in the day. All my music was in FLAC and it sounded amazing. This of course was during the time when 128bit MP3s were popular (bleh). A friend of mine has a Cowon player, not sure what model, but he has been happy with it.
