Yeah :p There's an aluminium bumper around the edge like the 4 and 4s, except this one scratches incredibly easily

Mine didn't. I did only have it case free for 2 days though and didn't drop it on any concrete.

Loving the phone so far. I wasn't expecting much coming from a 4s, but it's noticeably faster, lighter and has better color on the screen. The size didn't need to change IMO though. My only gripe is losing the google maps app. Thankfully I can still point my browser to maps.google.com and get near the same experience minus streetview. The improved Siri functionality might even have me using the feature instead of ignoring it like I did on the 4s.

There are more problems then that with the iPhone5 for me, mainly the build quality.

Here is a picture of my third iPhone5. (Just out of the box)

At the minute I have two on my desk and have returned one. All three are sub par. Not what I was expecting from apple at all.

It's a mass produced device. There will be defects. It'd be frustrating for sure for people who spend that kind of money and are faced with scratches, but it sure beats attenuation like what the 4 suffered at launch.

Apple is the only company I know off that can release a product that is substandard and get away with it

They don't get away with it though. How many free cases did they have to give out when the 4 launched? Now with this quality control issue, the 5 will always be regarded as being easily scratched. The media is going to eat this up and make it seem like every iPhone 5 has this problem.

My problem with Apple is them not fessing up to their mistakes and blaming it on the consumer. I don't think anyone will forget "you're holding it wrong" any time soon.

There just appears to be far to many people with the same issue for it to be considered normal. Its the most expensive smartphone out there and they are saying that the product is built to the level of standard equivalent to a finely crafted watch.

So I'm sorry I am not accepting defects.

I'm not saying you should accept defects in an iPhone or any other product. I'd keep exchanging too if I were you. I wouldn't be on my third though. I would have opened the second one in store to check it before leaving.

Thats what happens when a sub par company is pulled from the ashes by their "nemesis" (With the crowd booing and hissing at him when they announced that he saved their company) then the sheeple flock to their overpriced products for the "status" that real people see though... If Mr. Bill hadn't saved them I think the world would be a better place...

The store here you have to reserve it and then collect and I haven't had that come through yet. I will pick one up as soon as I can, because .. yeh that is the best option but until there is a lot of stock I cant. :(

I've only paid for one of the phones and apple just sent the next one out next day. But they understandably want one of the iphones back before they send out the next one.

Sigh, fanboys are just as bad as anti-fanboys. Anyone who buys a phone as a status symbol has problems. As far as the price goes...it's the same price here as any other top end smartphone. You're from the US, you should know this.

For as shady as Apple has been, do you think smartphones would be where they are today if Apple hadn't spurred the market? The top platforms all feed off each other. Android is a great platform today. 5 years ago it was garbage. Even WP8 looks promising. If Apple didn't have competition they would have no reason to progress either. Now if only they all shared the same app store. It would be absolutely incredible if purchases weren't tied to a single platform, but were platform agnostic.

Ah, that makes more sense then. Hopefully with number 4 they finally get it right lol.

Precisely, they gave out free cases and got away with it, there was also problems with the screen glue not setting or off-colouring if i remember rightly?

The glue wasn't dry yet. The off-coloring cleared up within a few days.

If you had purchased the phone outright you could return it if the free case didn't satisfy you. It was the carriers who wouldn't let you out of a 2 year contract if you were past 15 days.

I had a case within a few days so never noticed the attenuation issue. Once it was public knowledge though I did take the case off to see the problem firsthand. It really was a non-issue for me as I always use a case anyway, but horrible of Apple to release the phone in that state. There is no way they didn't know of the issue before release.

Thing is, it's not just a select few, iPhone 5 users across the world are reporting this issue, which seems to be caused by the Anodized Aluminium. This is the same issue which other phones using this material have suffered from, such as the HTC One S.

Phones coming out with defects from manufacturing, regardless of maker is to be laughed at, especially with the price tag of phones nowadays.
