Intel's 12-18 core X299 CPUs are now available to pre-order at Overclockers UK

I'm rather shocked that AMD has such better base clock speeds. Kinda impressive tbh. I'd like to know which CPU holds the edge at Max OC though.

And just popped in my head, I'd like to see power consumption numbers. Intel says it's lower, but has more cores and higher boost clocks. Would be interesting to see how they compare

Well considering AMD's are lower in price AND is soldered, which has much better heat transfers than TIM, I am so disappointed in this lineup from Intel.

The 18 core intel CPU will probably overclock better than any of the Ryzen CPUs.

Already seen the 10 core 7900X doing 4.8 so I think the 18 core version will manage about 4.3 or 4.4.

I know they're not the same but considering how much we paid for Xeon E5-2699v3's (which is essentially the same spec as the Core i9 7980XE) then these are a steal.

With AMD being so much cheaper, why would anyone bother with these unless they really needed the 18 core variant. Even then, save an extra £200 and get yourself 2 threadrippers!

Yeah but AMD were not in the game then. 32 core single socket Epyc is $2000. Or about £1800.

no reason at all.... that is why i swicthced from intel back to amd after 10+ years.

Intel needs to get off their ass. Its not a question that these are a reaction to TR and overpriced. I look at the 1950X and almost all the other parts to redo my rig (minus GPU) and its still less money than just buying the Intel CPU. 1950X and ROG Zenith Extreme for the win!

It's like that at every single level of the stack too dude. So for example you can buy a Ryzen 1200 and motherboard for less than a Core I5 7500. You can buy a 1600 and board for less than Intel's 7800X and you can buy a Ryzen 1700 and board for far less than the 7820X.

This is AMD. This is the value that AMD offer, and it's a country mile better than Intel at every product point. This is how AMD get market share. When the prices are so low that even a raving Intel fanboy will buy AMD.

But it's working in far more reaching ways than just people buying it. They are also berating Intel. So for example most of your fanboys need a side to pick. They pick that side, then slag off the other. It's quite normal in tech and life really.

But yeah, every one who bummed up to Intel over the past five years have now seen how badly Intel were fleecing them and it's made them mad. Now see that wouldn't be an issue if Ryzen was crap but it isn't. OK, so if we are splitting hairs Skylake X has higher IPC but who the f**k is going to care when Ryzen is just so cheap?

Yeah, I wouldn't want to be Intel right now. It's kinda like being married to some one for a decade and then finding out they've been cheating on you.
