intel vs amd?

ok so, this probably isnt the perfect forum for this, and there has probably been loads of discussion on this in every other corner of the internet, but why not...

So, when earlier it came to the amd's vs the pentiums, I'd say that I've been a fan of the AMD's (benchmarks tests and whatnot), now they're both running into the dual-core processor arena, and i've seen some benchmarks where they're pretty much running close to each other, i think the X2's were further ahead, but not by an extreme edge. now heres the thing, when it comes to prices, the X2's seem to be considerably more expensive than the pentium D's out there, am I simply comparing the wrong models to each other? and when it comes down to it, amd vs pentium today, the line of 64's vs the line of p4's and d's, where are they standing compared to each other? (i'm sure the answers will have at least somewhat of a bias noting the forum this is in :D, but hey, i seem to need reinforcement in my belief in amd heh )

Intel have aimed their dual cores at the lower end of the market, whereas until the A64 3800+, AMD were aiming at the high-end. The X2 d/c's kick intels ass at most stuff tbh and whoop ass at gaming too :D

Try looking at the AMD 3800+ dual core and see what you think - they perform nicely :wavey:

Basically..there are a few easy key things to point out.

Intel has teh advantage of raw clock speed, and loads of L2 cache.

This has Intel in the lead, for now...in the Encoding segment of benchmarks.

AMD has the advantage of efficiency, and extreme memory performance at stock.

This has AMD in the lead, for pretty much everything else, except encoding, which suprisingly..they aren't far behind in.

If you're a power user who wants to edit video fast, get a Pentium D.

If you want to do everything, extremely well, get a Athlon 64.

It's the truth...non biased.

Intel has got something up their sleeve, but for now, amd is the clear choice.

not really true nick, intel can definately hold its own against some of the A64's, and on the practicl side of it AMD wins games by 10fps at the most. if you want to do everything extremely well get whatever your budget can afford, as todys cpu's are head and shoulders above netin they are being asked to do.
