Performance enthusiasts rejoice! Intel has today advanced its enthusiast-level quad-core processor family with the introduction of the Intel® CoreE2 Extreme processor QX6800. With potentially greater overclocking headroom, and the news that up and coming games will be supporting multi-threading, the new processor is looking increasingly attractive. Eeeek spensive! Deffo badass though... If I had the flow I'd definitely be rocking one. Currently I'm more interested in the lower end quads that are going to be under $500.

Of the lower end quads which would be best for clocking????

As most of you know I am using an E6600 atm...would want to saty in or around that price mark...

That QX6800 would be rockin', but I agree with Mullet... gimme a quad-core 6600 for $XXX and OC it!:D Even though currently running for over $800 on Newegg.com, I'd swear someone posted on :oc3d: that they'll be significantly cheaper in the months to come, in the $300-$400 range; this = sign me up!:D

How did you find that post? (cheers though) I knew it was me but the forum search never plays ball with me!

Just remember those prices are for 1000 units in Q3 07 so retail prices will be higher...

I'm holding out for the Q6700 if I can get one for ~£300, I think I may need to reconsider my cooling though, somehow I think my 320w tec will fail to cut it with 4 overclocked cores as it seems to struggle with my e6600...

On topic - the QX6800 looks like a beast! I'm looking forward to seeing people clock the nuts off those!

Had it in my subscribed threads, good thread information.;)

You have a TEC, would that be a watercooled-type TEC a la Swiftech? If you can't get that E6600 up to 3.8GHz, you either live in Brazil sans air conditioning or one or more components in your pc isn't working right.

As for the QX6800, I'm pretty sure more than a couple madmen out there will be setting benchmark records. I gotta take a look around on the internet, I don't know what the highest stable overclock is with these new C2D's is. (vapor phase change... t'would be nice.)
